Comments: Hello,
I'm here hoping and praying for more information, hell anything at all if you may have just walked passed his room- anything would be beyond grateful for me and my family. His name was Arthur Aldridge, from New York (Kingston, Lake Katrine, Wallkill etc he had lived could be any of those or other general area), and served from 1951-1955 US NAVY U.S.S Remey. Known he had traveled the world, mainly various asian territories the basis of things he'd bought home. We believed he wasn't infantry but worked behind the scenes computers accounting files or other. He was a pretty private man so I'm sure this is a shot in the dark, but I had to try. He was my grandfather who had passed away before we were able to sit down and record him sharing stories about his life, for a while before his passing he battled cancer for 11 years, then diagnosed with end leukemia (a year or 2 prior to this) then had a stroke and unable to speak more than a couple words for about 6 months to his passing.

The main reason this is so important to me, is I am trying to put together information on his life, the things he'd done, seen and said- the wisdom and advice. My daughter who is now 3 years old bonded very hard with her 'Poppy'- and I also have a 5 year old son who both loved their Poppy very very much. He was more of a father to myself and my brother than just our grandfather. To me, pictures are great sharing with family, future children and grand children- but from experience seeing pictures of relatives who've died either before or when I was very young- as nice as the photos are sadly you do not get the idea or knowledge of knowing the actual person. Pictures speak a thousand words, yes, but does not speak to the character integrity wisdom and personality.

I'm hoping to put something together with videos and then also written stories on his life, for my children and their future children and childrens' children. To know the man and not just his face. Anything at all would be really so amazing and a huge help.

was a plumber's apprentice that worked on evaporators
for other ships. His name is Sonny Brackett. He didn't
talk much about his time in the Navy, but did talk
about his down time and 10 cent hot dogs and beers on
the beach...

Comments: In 1961 the USS Remey conducted a reserve cruise to Halifax Nova Scotia.This was my first duty station and I must say I would have given anything to stay aboard her for my entire tour of duty. I was later stationed at Quonset Point RI aboard the USS Lake Champlain CVS 39. Does any one know if the USS Remey is in moth balls or was she scrapped like the Champ was. If anyone could tell me where to aquire a large photo it would be appreciated. I would also like to go and visit her if at all possible.
