Comments: I believe my brother Bede Gaus was a crewmember on the USS Mansfield when the ship was struck by a mine in the Korean waters. I am looking for confirmation that my brother Bede was a member of the crew. Also, Bede was the ship's barber. Any photos of the ship's damage and a list of the crewmembers would be appreciated

Comments: I am the daughter of a Korean War Veteran. His name is Donald R. Jones and he served between 1951-53. He Couldn't remember all of the ships names but he did remember the USS Mansfield. He was a radioman so he may have moved around. I am wondering if anyone still remembers my dad. He is a wonderful father and I would love to surprise him with contact info of any old navy buddies that he may have served with.

Keywords: USS Mansfield Destroyer that was struck by a land mine in Inchon in Korea. Sargent
Fireman Onfre Candelaria was on the destroyer when it wqs hit . He saved three other
soldiers after the incident they swam 26 miles to safety . They were assumed missing
in action . Im looking for any information that was pertaining to this incident for a
memorial next month at War Memorial inNew Mexico at Kirkland Air force base. Please
any information pertaining to this. Thank you for all your help

Comments: My father, J.C. Webb served on the Mansfield during the Korean War as an Electrician's Mate. He was on the Mansfield during the "Sitting Duck Squadron" operation and was one bulkhead behind the blast when they hit that mine shortly afterwards.
He and my mother (who he married during the war) are still alive and each turned 80 last year. He is retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he worked as a research engineer. They live in Florida, as do I. If you knew my dad and would like to reconnect, let me know and I'll pass your message on to him.

and 1954. He knew my mother Willie M Eastman.
My biological father is this gentleman. I do
not know where his home town is located. However
he was stationed in Hutchinson or Wichita Kansas
or at least there for a short time. I recently
found George Eastman who is on my birth cert.
after 48 years. My mother and him have both given me this gentlemans name. All I want to find out is something about him. I DO not want to

Comments: We are trying to locate and contact former members of the Korean War who served aboard the following destroyers: USS DeHaven (DD-727), USS Mansfield (DD-728), USS Collett (DD-730), USS Lyman K. Swenson (DD-729), USS Henderson (DD-785) and USS Gurke (DD-783). The destroyers comprised Destroyer Squadron 9 (DESRON9) and became known as The Sitting Duck Squadron, for their pre-invasion assault on Wolmi-Do Island at Inchon, Korea on September 13, 1950. These six ships received the Navy Unit Commendation for their bravery and heroism on this historic day.

We like to locate veterans of DESRON9 to determine potential interest for organizing a Sitting Duck Squadron Reunion, to be held in 2004 at a yet to be determined location in the United States.
