Comments: I have pictures of the August 1952 Boxer fire taken from the Stembel by Ray Bentley. The fire was already out by the time the Stembel arrived so you don't see much fire close up. Mostly shows the Boxer crew being picked up and returned to the Boxer. Total of 17 pictures, just under 2 megabytes in .jpg format. Includes the Stembel log for that day. If interested, email me and I'll email them to you.

Comments: I BELEIVE THE STEMBEL WAS DECOMMISIONED IN 1957 AND THEN SOLD TO ARGENTINA, IT WAS THEN SUNK IN FAULAND WAR WITH ENGLAND. I GOT THIS OUT OF LIBRARY BOOK JAMES RECORD OF THIPS BUT I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CONFIRM THIS AS THE SHIP IS NOT LISTED IN ANOTHER VERSION OF THE PRESENT UPDATED BOOK.

Comments: I remember the fire aboard the Boxer. As I recall, she had a starboard list and you could see men diving off the flight deck. We picked up several men who were in the water and took them aboard, to later be transfered back to the Boxer. We were also in Wonson for shore bombbardment on sereral occasions.
