Comments: My father was in the twining during the Korean War. Told me some stories about Wonson Harbor and said he worked on the Hedgehogs. Was wondering if anyone remembers him. Also would like some more information on the Twining, in process of building a replica of it. My dad's first name was George.

Comments: On 30,Jan. 1952, Cdr.Paul N.Gray, commander of VF-54,
off of the USS Essex-CV-9, had his AD-2 aircraft hit
by enemy AA fire, causing prop damage. He ditched his
aircraft in Wonsan Harbor. Cdr.Gray was rescued by the
USS Twining-DD-540. WELL-DONE, Twining.

Comments: On Feb.4,1952, a AD-2,Bu.No.122327 aircraft of Squdron
VF-194, off of the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge-
CV-45, was hit by enemy AAA fire, and ditched in
Wonsan Harbor. The pilot,Lt.John C. Workman,USN, was
rescued by the USS Twining-DD-540.Lt.Workman was later
KIA on April 20,1952. WELL DONE USS TWINING DD-540.

Comments: My dad Theo W. Slater and his best friend STeve Stevenson both served on the Uss TWINNING in WWII. Does any one remember them?
Can yo tell me where the Twinning was in the service? My dad didn't talk very much about his service.Can you tell me where the ship was deployed?

Comments: three trips to korea from 1951-1954.spent quite a bit of time in wonson harbor, fired at from shore batteries several times.bombed and strafed by jet aircraft.bombarded targets ashore, lots of five inch rounds,shot mines out of water.supplied gorrillas with ammo.and more. we where busy. picked up downed pilots and repulsed a boarding party

Comments: I am just curious, My dad says Uss Twining was not named after the famous Air Force General and Joint Chief of Staff, Nathan Twining, I thought it was. Could anyone settle this for me.

Comments: In one of the reunion pages they have my father, Donald Fisher, listed with the middle initial as "R" this is incorrect. It is "S" His name is Donald S. Fisher. Dad passed away at a very young age. He retired from the service at the end of Korea and died in 1956. Please correct the information. Thank you, Karen D.(Fisher)Davis
