Comments: Myron Jensen, signalman, on the Wedderburn, passed away on 3/12/2017, at 96 he just started talking about his service, then he was gone. He was a private man, so all 7 of his children don't know much about those times. Mentioned Iwa Jima..he was from Iowa. We would appreciate any memories from his shipmates.

Comments: My father, Joseph Victor Vecsey, served on the USS Weddeburn. He enlisted in 1937 and was commissioned to the USS New Yorker. He was in the South Pacific during Pearl Harbor. I am researching his travels especially in the South Pacific, where he and other crew members landed on a small island in the Fiji Islands, specifically the Northern Yasawa's, and went ashore to meet Abraham on the Island of Ygnetta. Were you or anyone you know, there with him and can you tell me more about this adventure!

Comments: My father Frank Matas served on the Wedderburn in (around) 1950
1955. He hung out with a few guys, one being George DePinto (spelling?
Not sure). This Christmas, we gave him a picture of the ship, which
brought back memories, that he enjoyed sharing with this five children,
and grandchildren.
If anyone remembers him, please contact me, I enjoyed watching his eyes
light up this Christmas while recalling his glory days on the 684.
Thanks,
Missy Matas

Comments: My Dad was an SK2 on the Wedderburn during the Korean War. He did not speak much to me about his actions, only that his war duty was long. My brother was born while he was away. Once, I took my Dad and My son to the USS Kidd museum in Baton Rouge. the Kidd was a fletcher class and Dad was telling us stories about the simularities of the two ships. We sort of went off the assigned tour and searched around the ship. I could see it in his eyes. His remembering certian things while on there was unique and a bit of living history to me and my son. My Dad passed away in 1996. He was a proud american and believed in what was right.
