Comments: I came across this web site and thought perhaps I could find shipmates I served with. My name is Michael Varela (Mike) and I was aboard the Hamner between Oct. 55 and end of Jan. 56. I'm looking for shipmates that might remember me that were aboard during this period. I was an MM3 and worked in the engine room. It's hard to remember names since it's been so long. At this point in my life I'm 77 and enjoy skiing the whole seaon and motorcycling all the time (love riding bikes). I sometimes remember about my navy life, which I enjoyed very much and some of guys I best knew along the way. It was some of the best times of my life especially being young and foot loose. Be in touch if you come across this message.
