Comments: Researching my family tree and found a cousin who died as a result of burns suffered from an accident aboard the USS Jarvis on January 14,1953. Two men received The Navy and Marine Corps Medal as a result of this accident. My cousin's name was Victor Ray Kramer. Does anyone have any information about the events of that day?

we where suppose to operate as the "Lone Eagle" on the West side of Korea. We were to find and destroy the emeny shipping. Patrolled the coast with plane guard to HMS Ocean aircraft carrier as plane guard, towed various PT Boats and .S Korean Mine Sweapers at night for their safety and rest. Encountered a Chinesse PT Boat at the Yalu River in the heavy fog. Had a silent GQ.Fog lifted and they fled back into the Yalu River to China. Most of our presences and orders were clandestine. (The only Detroyer that had a large swimming pool on the aft deck)

Comments: The USS JARVIS DD 799 was Sold to Spain, November 3, 1960 and became the Alcala Galiano D24, on December 15, 1988 it was broken up for scrap. What a sad fate for a ship with so much history.

Comments: I am looking for the man who had an appendectomy on the USS Jarvis--it was the first of its kind to be performed on a Destroyer. My father was the doctor for the group. I don't know his dates of service.
