Comments: Dad, John Arnold Jr. passed away on 10-6-2006. Howard 'Buddy' Arnold was his older bro and served 1 year with dad between 1951-1954. Dad wrote a story for us about being out on the ocean during rough weather. He has written many stories and left us a rich written heritage. We have a couple of pictures of him and another shipmate in front of some huge guns on deck and of a helicopter landing on the deck. We also have dad's lay chaplain's book with a few notes in it. Uncle Buddy sent dad a wooden case with ribbons and medals from his tour of service. Sadly, Uncle Buddy has passed away also. I'm so glad I found this site. Looking forward to corresponding.

Comments: My dad is still with me and avidly persuing hobbies. He was there on the Eversole during the Korean war and has lots of stories about it from being srafed by Migs to seeing another destroyer in their group being blown in half by a mine shortly after relieving the Eversole in the point position to seeing the "Big Mo" bombard shorelines. As well as many personal interactions between himself and others on board. I grew up with these stories and love them. I will ask him if he remembers any of the names mentioned here. Take care everybody!

I have received scrolls from the navy in reference to the ship but so far have not been able to view them as they are on 8 mm film. My father was Robert L. Martin and i am trying to find any one that knew him. He passed away September 1980. Any one with pictures of him and the crew, the ship or any thing related to him please let me know. Thank you very much

Comments: My father, Donald L. McNown, served aboard the USS Eversole (DD 789). His dates of service are 8/27/51 through 5/3/54. He passed away 7/16/08. I found a pin in his effects that I am trying to identify. It is a miniature metal pin with color enamel flags. To the left is the flag of the United Kingdom. The flag of France is on the right and a shield of the United States is centered. Hanging below is a bar with 2 blue stars on white, with a red border around the edge. Efforts by a friend of mine in the Naval Reserve led to speculation that it may be from the "Blue Star Mother's Society." Nobody can explain the 2 stars. He was the only family member enlisted in the service. I can send an image of the pin to anyone who may be able to identify it.
I also found a photo of his unit from the San Diego Training Center. It is dated October 1951. If anyone is interested I can e-mail a scanned copy. I also have a couple pictures of Dad in uniform on base and on the deck of the Eversole.
