Comments: I am looking for any information and/or stories (good and more probably, not so good) about my grandfather, CWT Ben Strickland who served aboard the Hailey from her shakedown cruise in late 1943 through the end of the war. He died long ago but the only thing he would tell my mom about his time in the Navy was that he was the Chief of the Head, and [he] was damned good at it! It wasn't until years after his death that my mother learned what he meant. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Mr. Nangle,
My name is Skip Hailey. I served as a Naval Aviator in Vietnam (circa 1969-1971) and flew off the USS. Kitty Hawk. I have 157 missions over "downtown" (Hanoi).
If possible, I would like to know the person, and any background, that the USS. Hailey was named for.
My father was a Navel Aviator also. He flew F6F's in WWII in the Pacific. I was just wondering if there's a connection.
Thank you in advance for the information.
