Keywords: I was aboard the Uss Hanson DD832 during the Viet nam war. I made two tours to Viet Nam between 1964 to 1967. We shore bombed and did plane guard duty for the USS Bonhomrichard.

Comments: I had lost my DD214 and recently requested a replacement from the government archives and upon examination it said that I had never served at sea during my tour of duty, which is not the case. I was on the USS Hanson for 3+/- months. It was half a century ago so my recollection of exact time aboard is not as though it was yesterday. Furthermore, I didn't think that accuracy would be that important until I applied for medical benefits with the VA. My question is: Does anyone know how I can rectify the discrepancy?

USS Hanson DDR 832
Sun, 22 Dec 1996
From: KANHome@aol.com
I promised some information regarding the USS Hanson after the holidays,
but I ran into my friend (David Mattison) a little earlier than
expected.
The USS Hanson was a destroyer which saw action in both the Atlantic and
Pacific during the Korean War era. During David's tour (1950-51) the
Hanson was assigned to the First Marine Division as an escort to the
Division's carrier group (name unknown). The Hanson perfromed several
functions including pilot recovery, submarine and air defense, picket,
and sea-to-land artillery support.
Some of David's most vivid memories relate to picking up downed flyers
from the First Marine Division's fighter support squandrons.
I hope this helps, and if you need ant further information (or are
interested in hearing more) please let me know. It may take a little
while to respond, since I only see David on occassion, but I'll do what
I can.
Thanks again for your help.
