Comments: Let me first introduce myself: My name is Lene Wul-Soon Yang. I am a Danish-Korean adoptee who has spent the last 28 years trying to piece together the puzzle of my past.

Eighteen years ago, I wrote on this site and received a few responses, where I learned that the orphanage, Yangju Baby Home in Dongducheon, where I was placed in 1968, had a close connection to Camp Casey. However, I never got a complete answer to all my questions back then, so this time, I am asking for any information or photographs related to the Yangju Orphanage (Yangju Baby Home) in Dongducheon.

Once again, I’m reaching out to see if anyone who served in Korea between 1968 and 1970 might be able to help me.

I am trying to reconstruct my past, from which I have only vague bodily memories, and I’m working to fill in the blanks about what happened during the first year of my life in the Uijeongbu and Dongducheon area.

I would like to know if anyone who served in this area—particularly in Uijeongbu and Dongducheon—remembers a young Korean woman who died (or was found dead) with her baby/little girl around October 1968.

Additionally, does anyone recall if a Korean baby was brought to or passed through Camp Casey (or one of the nearby camps) and was later abandoned or transferred to Yangju Baby Home in Dongducheon, where KWAK, Sun-Yong was the superintendent?

I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could provide or help with ANY information related to this subject, even if it seems insignificant. Thank you so much for your patience, and I apologize for bringing up this personal matter.

Best regards,
Lene Wul-Soon Yang

Unfortunately, Al passed away on January 17, 2022, and I've included a link to his obituary.
https://www.crevassesimplecremation.com/obituary/alan-bame
I was also at Camp Red Cloud from May 1, 1968 - May 31, 1969, initially assigned to the 54th CBRE, Chemical Detachment as a Clerk Typist. On my return from mid-tour leave, I was moved to G3 Ops where I worked as an Infantry Operations and Intelligence Specialist. Al arrived in April of 1969 and based on the short assignment overlap, I didn't remember Al, even after we reconnected in 2019.
Before you view, note that Al made a disclaimer, identifying I could share it with others and that the quality of the firm was poor but felt those he shared it with would enjoy seeing some of where they spent their youth.
On the video you'll see downtown Seoul, the Secret Gardens, Camp Red Cloud and a personal family xmas piece at his home in Chicago in 1970.
Also, be aware that the link to the video will only be active for 90 days, so if you're interested in saving it, you'll have to download and save on your drive before then.

As a Platoon Leader of Korean Augmentation to U.S. Army KATUSA soldiers, with the assistance from former SSG James J. Furgal, HHC, 2ID Chemical Section and former SGT William Gary McGuire, 25th Chemical Company, I Corps Special Troops, the Korean DMZ defoliation operations that began in March 1968 by the Free Republic of Korea Army FROKA , Korean Military Advisory Group KMAG , and 2ID Chemical Section continued in 1969-70.

Due to funding and security restraints, FROKA did not participate in the 1969-70 defoliation operations of the 2ID sector of the Korean DMZ.

The mission I was charged with included ground spraying Agent Orange at full strength right from the 55 gallon drums. There was no dilution of Agent Orange because aerial spraying in the DMZ was prohibited by the 1955 Korean Armistice. Ironically, the U.S. Senate never ratified the 1925 Geneva Conference banning the use of chemical/biological warfare until 1975 under President Ford, which justified our government to start using chemical/biological agents in Vietnam, the Korean DMZ, Thailand, Laos, Panama, Guam and other Vietnam-era theaters in the late 1960’s.

Agent Blue, a pre-mixed solution of about 5 percent cacodylic acid, 27percent sodium cacodylate, 8 percent surfactant and salt, and about 60percent water, was applied, in a similar manner as Agent Orange, but to conifers and grasses instead of hardwoods.

The other herbicide applied to grasses was Telvar Monuron, which came in 100 lb bags of white powder that was mixed with water in a Power Driven Decontamination Apparatus PDDA. The PDDA could not be used for spraying Agents Orange/Blue for several logistical and technical reasons.

Our mission was to spray fields of fire around all Observation Posts OP’s, Guard Posts GP’s in front of the minefield/barrier fence, along the barrier fence, and along all unimproved roads by the barrier fence and leading from the Civilian Control Line to the OP’s and GP’s to prevent/minimize North Korean assault teams from ambushing U.S. Army work parties and soldiers stationed within and around the DMZ.

The 1969-70 defoliation operations did improve fields of fire and security along access roads, lessening the number and severity of the North Korean attacks.

To be continued.

Comments: As an A1C in the Air Force I was detached from OSAN AFB along with 13 other Airmen to track reconnaissance flights along the DMZ at B BTRY 5th Artillery Hawk missile site at Mae Bong Mountain. I was there 1966 - 1967. There were approximately 75 Army soldiers stationed there. I am hoping others reading this may have been stationed there that I might contact and share the experience.
