Comments: Does anyone out there that served in the DMZ remember how long each duty was pulled on the MDL out-post and Guard posts? Just curious. I served 12 mos with Hdqs. Troop and know you line Troop guys were buzzing back and forth all hours of the day and night. A sincere salute to you as you guys had tough duty up there. No jeep tops allowed winter or summer, crazy duty hours, etc. It was cold, miserable duty for you. Thanks

Is where I went to communications wire school. To become a commo chief
31G40 and a sergeant. Camp St. Barbara was a temporary duty station (TDY)
from D Battery 6th Bn 80th Arty. My unit was not deplored to the DMZ. I was the only one from my unit to go to wire school.
Also my first duty station arriving in South Korea was Camp Casey.

Comments: Hi guys been a long time. Jun67 to Jul68. It's great looking back at those memories
good and the bad. I was trying to find some old pictures from those days. I
remember some on dozers and cruchers and around the hooches. I had a good friend
who came back when I did who went to my home with me in between Duty stations Jim
Andrews. He might have been ER and just headed home I was an RA and went to
Germany. I remember Lieutenant Pete Peterson who reenlisted to become our company
Commander and after was promoted to that post received orders for Vietnam and died
soon after. I visited him on the wall in DC, a very teary reunion. I took a trip
back to Korea in 91 I think after the Olympics and what a change. No more rice
patties north of Seoul. It was built up all the way to Uijeongbu and the Ville at
Camp Stanley was completely paved in cement. It was unbelievable. Love to hear back
from you guys my number is 310-770-1754. Steve
Ps. Remember when Howard had his circumcision!

Comments: My dad passed away on August 28,2018 and he told me he served in Korea but would never speak about it. He was diagnosed with metastatic cancer just this past June. I don’t believe he was giving me the entire story as my entire life my mother despised me and any time I said he served in Korea she became violently angry and screamed that he never went to Korea (she was mentally ill). Before his death he gave me a disk with pictures not only of Korea DMZ but also of two Korean women. One younger wearing what appears to be a wedding band and an older woman with her arms around the younger and they appear to be frightened and ducking. There is another photo of what appears to be the younger woman in a nightgown sitting on the floor in front of what appears to be bedding behind her but her head is facing down so I can’t see her face. His DD214 papers say he had foreign service of 1 year 3 months. I was born May 6, 1968 at least that is what my birth certificate said from what I can remember. I’ve tried doing a search of my name and birth date in my birth town of record in Massachusetts USA and there is no record of me. Please if anyone knew of a Richard J Jackson serving in DMZ between 1965-1968. In his box of memories he has a DMZ patch Imjin Scout. It’s an Indian red face gray feathers with blue tips inside a white five pointed star with a black background

Comments: I found all of my memorabilia from my graduation from the Advanced Combat Training Academy, (ACTA) on the DMZ in Korea in 1969. This was the Graduation Class of 12-69 dated July 1969. I found my Graduation Program giving 51 full names and ranks of graduates, full names and ranks of 10 Honor Graduates, full names and ranks of all of the ACTA Staff and instructors, full names and ranks of 12 Past Honor Graduates in 1969, and 11 Commanding General's Award Winners. I also have the graduation photo clearly documenting all 51 graduates.

I know that so many of you out there are looking for proof of your loved ones being on the DMZ while in service. I have received many emails from servicemen looking for proof as well. So if you were in the Army in July of 1969, stationed on the DMZ, or sent to ACTA Training from south of the DMZ this might be the proof you are looking for.
I will be more than happy to send all of my documents via email and be willing to write a Buddy Letter if your name is in the Graduation Program. I can also give you some tips on how I was able to get my type II Diabetes as an Agent Orange Service Connected disability. I wish you all well and wish you luck in your search for proof of Agent Orange exposure for you and your loved ones.

I also found my yearbook, April 1969 to April 1970, from my tour of duty in Korea. I was in Alpha Company, 3rd BN, 23rd INF, 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Platoon. I have scanned the whole yearbook into my computer. What a wonderful history this is for many fellow soldiers that served during that time on the DMZ. I would imagine that those soldiers that are looking for proof that they served during that time, for AO claims at the VA, would have something to tap into. I have set up a site where you can see some of my yearbook from Korea. Alpha 3/23 2nd Inf Div. Korea 69-70, You can find it at

Comments: My name is SSG Ervin Allen Carpenter, and I retired from the Army in 2008. I was with A company 3/23 INF, 2nd ID at Camp Greaves/Lawton, Greaves was the first camp on the right as you crossed north on Freedom Bridge. I am an ImJim Scout and still remember my training at ACTA. Our guard post was GP Jane. I spent most of my time on GP Jane and patrolling the DMZ. I still have my ImJim Scout patch and certificate. Our Companies Position #1 was on the ImJim River. We would rotate every six month and other units would take our place. Your unit might be one of those!

I was awarded a 20% service connected disability for my Type II diabetes caused by exposure to Agent Orange during my tour of duty on the DMZ, April 1969 to April 1970. I used my DD 214 for proof of my service there and my medical records to reinforce the fact that I was on the DMZ.
