I have a picture of one of my unit members standing in front of a sign identifying HQ I Corps (GP), G3 CBR, 54th CML Detachment but I've looked and been unsuccessful in finding any reference to the 54th Chemical Detachment. I wondered if any of you have come across any information referencing the unit and it's mission?. I have a FOIA request in to the Dept of the Army. Thanks!

Comments: I found all of my memorabilia from my graduation from the Advanced Combat Training Academy, (ACTA) on the DMZ in Korea in 1969. This was the Graduation Class of 12-69 dated July 1969. I found my Graduation Program giving 51 full names and ranks of graduates, full names and ranks of 10 Honor Graduates, full names and ranks of all of the ACTA Staff and instructors, full names and ranks of 12 Past Honor Graduates in 1969, and 11 Commanding General's Award Winners. I also have the graduation photo clearly documenting all 51 graduates.

I know that so many of you out there are looking for proof of your loved ones being on the DMZ while in service. I have received many emails from servicemen looking for proof as well. So if you were in the Army in July of 1969, stationed on the DMZ, or sent to ACTA Training from south of the DMZ this might be the proof you are looking for.
I will be more than happy to send all of my documents via email and be willing to write a Buddy Letter if your name is in the Graduation Program. I can also give you some tips on how I was able to get my type II Diabetes as an Agent Orange Service Connected disability. I wish you all well and wish you luck in your search for proof of Agent Orange exposure for you and your loved ones.

I also found my yearbook, April 1969 to April 1970, from my tour of duty in Korea. I was in Alpha Company, 3rd BN, 23rd INF, 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Platoon. I have scanned the whole yearbook into my computer. What a wonderful history this is for many fellow soldiers that served during that time on the DMZ. I would imagine that those soldiers that are looking for proof that they served during that time, for AO claims at the VA, would have something to tap into. The problem I am running into is that his service was with the 1st battalion 7th infantry division in the year of 1967. His wife states that he talked about his participation in the demilitarized zone but I can not make a connection to agent orange because the VA only recognizes agent orange use 1968-1971. Can anyone with information regarding any use to the herbicides in 1967 please email me.

Comments: I have learned several pieces of information. To learn more about your service, request an Official Military Record from St. Louis. If you need help, go to your local Veterans Affairs Office. They know the ins and outs of the system. I have tried to get a copy of the Official Medical Records which were not included with my husbands Official Military Records. If you filed a Claim and were denied, request a copy of the Claims File from the Regional Office where the claim was denied. READ, READ, READ the denial known as Statement of Claim. A lot of information is there in Black and White. I have read so much, the one constant is change. The names of the Camps and the Names of the Units. The true constant is the coordinates of the locations of the various camps. Still looking for a list of the units and camp names. I was shocked that there was a veteran that was unaware of the funeral benefits. Some of the local cemeteries have areas set aside for veterans, but it is your right to be buried at a National Cemetery. Again, your local Veterans Affairs Office can help. I hope that this information is of help to all.

Comments: Hi my name is John Quello I served in Korea from December of 1962 to January of 1964 I have read emails stating that some Veterans received hardship or hazardous duty pay I don't remember receiving any extra pay for serving in Korea and about 6 months of my tour was on the DMZ I might have received the aforementioned pay but don't remember. If anyone can some shed light on my question please let me know. Thank You For Your Anticipated Cooperation.
