Comments: Served scout section, 3rd platoon, C Troop, 9th Cav, 1st Cav Division from September of 62 until September of 63 at Camp Greaves, across Freedom Bridge on the north bank of the Imjin River.
Back then, The US held a twenty mile sector of the 150 mile DMZ in the Panmunjom area called the Kaesong Corridor, a classic invasion route to Seoul. The 1st Cav Division was setup in blocking positions along the route while the 9th Cav had responsibility of the DMZ and was to provided early warning.
Each 9th Cav Troop, A, B and C had responsibility of three observation posts, later called Guard Posts and a defined sector of the zone to run patrols, stakeouts and listening and the observation posts.
Our Troop commander was Captain Wilfred Jackson, a great man. I understand he made a career and retired a Colonel once serving in Vietnam as the 1st Cav's aviation battalion commander.
Our platoon leader was 2nd Lt. Robert Rintz and our platoon sergeant was SFC Virgil Lord. Our scout section leader was Sgt. Rabon. All good people.
The 2nd Infantry Division later assumed the 1st Cavs role in Korea while the 1st Cav was sent to Vietnam. The ROK army now has responsibility of the entire zone.
Oh, the stories I could tell. The coldest I have ever been in my life. The bus rides across the bridge on pass to Mickey Mouse Corners and Yonjigul. Those were the days.

I'm not sure what company he was in due to the fact that we lost his DD-214 a few years after his passing in 2013. I am trying to find anyone who may have served with him or knew him at all. He was suffering from deep depression and PTSD, although he went un-diagnosed we all knew he had problems when we were growing up. I just want to know if anyone has any information they can help me with, It would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am searching for anyone who served in Korea in 1968 - 1969, especially if you are suffering from any of the Agent Orange related diseases. I currently have five of them and am going for PTSD and100% disability. So far, only Type II Diabetes went thru, in only five months. My claims for Neuropathy of both feet and legs has been denied, appealed, and still waiting after 27 months for a decision. Two different VA doctors at separate locations have stated that I indeed have it, and should have been approved within 90 days. We all know how that goes. I arrived in county as a highly trained Infantry SP/4 just after the USS Peublo's capture, and of course they sent me to a Self-Propelled 175MM (Big Guns) at Camp Alex Williams, a very small camp just south of Camp Casey on the MSR. I five months I went from knowing nothing to knowing everything could I possibly could about her 31 tons of steel and 37 foot long barrel. We did everything with her, yes, we even slept on her a few times, but I requested a transfer back to the Boys in Blue, and in late July '68 I was assigned to Co. B, 1st Bn. 9th. Inf., 2nd Inf. Div. Two short days at South Camp Custer and Captain Sawyer shipped my ass to the fence and zone for training. So as the guys got ready to pack it up and leave, I got to gain all of their infinite wisdom for 2 full weeks....day and night....didn't see the sack the whole time I think, but I got a tour of the Zone, spent 5 nights with Katie, and got the thrill of having the claymores turned on me at the gate going into the zone! They warned me...and I STILL tried to set the claymores off! Yes, thank God, they stopped me, and the next morning showed me the error of my ways. Never, ever forgot that lesson. We listened to Joe tossing stones at the fence from the mine field, to him jingling the beer cans on the barbed wire, even was treated to the taste of rice paddy water (what do you mean...iodine tablets. For what? Just drink the water stupid!). Also learned about holes in the road to Panmunjom that week. What a wonderful senior class trip that was. So if any of you are still out there, drop me a line. For the boys in Co. B., you might remember me as the guy with no teeth on top. The Army let me go for over 18 months and 5 military installations before I finally got my choppers back! So, how about we all compare notes, see how we can help each other to get our claims approved before we die and leave our wives nothing as far as compensation goes. We know because we served in Korea instead of Nam it is a up hill battle, but hell, wasn't it a uphill battle in Korea too for us! Never, ever give up. We need to march on Washington, even if it is with walking sticks, crutches, canes and wheel chairs, and make them damn politicians listen to US for once, instead of to THEM all the time. If your with me, let me know. Our time may be short.....but we're not SHORT!!!!!!!!

Lots of time has passed and I only remember a few names like, Jim Benfield, Dan Runkie and Ken Chance. There were plenty of guys on our staff and we all helped/worked together to put out the weekly paper. We're talking 55 years ago and I wonder if anyone else remembers our newspaper.
Before I left Korea in early 1970 I put together a scrap book of all the weekly issues i'd been involved with and still have it and it's in fairly good condition ... a little yellowed but readable.
Love to hear from the Old PIO Staff or anyone else from 1968-1970 2nd Division. Even the Shadows of The Night guitarist I wrote a story about ... LOL. I still love G.L.O.R.I.A!!! Sorry, G2 cut the picture of you with your wig on, but hey, I might even be able to find that in my personal archive.

Im attempting to put together a history of the camp and which units were assigned there over the years. I believe the camp was closed in mid-1972 when I was transferred to Camp Howze but not sure if it was closed down, turned over to the ROCs or occupied by another US unit. I have no idea when it was opened.
Ive created a Facebook page dedicated to all who were stationed at Camp MacKenzie. If you were there, I would appreciate you going to the page (search Facebook for Dave Kup) and post your time there, unit you were with and perhaps a memory or two. Any pictures of the camp would be much appreciated as they seem to be quite scarce. Also any help in pinpointing the location or the name of the village outside the gate would be a big help as well.
