Spent a lot of time at B Company, 502nd MI Bn, and at 201st MI Detachment in Uijongbu.
Missed being CO of the Army Boat Detachment by a day. A Captain showed up who had been
a Navy EM - they gave him the job.

If you've ever visited Dongduchon "back in the day" google it. It has changed just a
bit. Camp Casey is no long a US Army installation. You can "drive" through it on google

Depot, ASCOM City. We were a Direct Support unit (Ordnance) for the Nike Hercules. I
was a 433, Mechanical Support. The unit did not seem to have much business and I spent
the first 6 months (Most of 1962) in the 226th which was during a nasty winter. We
lived in a Quonset Hut which the doors would not close completely. We had oil heaters
which would usually burn red hot. We all had the back of our Parkas melted from backing
up so close to the heaters. I finally got orders for the 65th Ordnance Company in
Anyang which was indeed a better job. Stayed busy!

soon after. I visited him on the wall in DC, a very teary reunion. I took a trip
back to Korea in 91 I think after the Olympics and what a change. No more rice

Camp Stanley was completely paved in cement. It was unbelievable. Love to hear back

I don’t believe he was giving me the entire story as my entire life my mother despised me and any time I said he served in Korea she became violently angry and screamed that he never went to Korea (she was mentally ill). Before his death he gave me a disk with pictures not only of Korea DMZ but also of two Korean women. One younger wearing what appears to be a wedding band and an older woman with her arms around the younger and they appear to be frightened and ducking. There is another photo of what appears to be the younger woman in a nightgown sitting on the floor in front of what appears to be bedding behind her but her head is facing down so I can’t see her face. His DD214 papers say he had foreign service of 1 year 3 months. I was born May 6, 1968 at least that is what my birth certificate said from what I can remember. I’ve tried doing a search of my name and birth date in my birth town of record in Massachusetts USA and there is no record of me. Please if anyone knew of a Richard J Jackson serving in DMZ between 1965-1968. In his box of memories he has a DMZ patch Imjin Scout. Comments: My name is Ruben Sanchez - I was at HQ I Corps, Camp Red Cloud from 5/1/68 - 5/31/69, I was assigned as a clerk to the 54th Chemical Detachment and made regular trips to the DMZ, driving unit officers to the area to conduct Boots On The Ground evaluations of the affects of AO in areas where it had been applied. I have a picture of one of my unit members standing in front of a sign identifying HQ I Corps (GP), G3 CBR, 54th CML Detachment but I've looked and been unsuccessful in finding any reference to the 54th Chemical Detachment. I wondered if any of you have come across any information referencing the unit and it's mission?. I have a FOIA request in to the Dept of the Army. Thanks!
