Comments: I arrived in Korea in September 1959 on the USNS Hugh Gaffney. I served most of my
tour as an M-47 tank crewman at HQ Company, but was transferred to B Company around
June or July 1960. I only remember supply sergeant SFC Colvin, and some of my crew
members: PFC Tony Gargano (from New Haven, CT), Martinez (from Puerto Rico), Billy
Hines (from Ireland), PFC Budden and Sp/5 Anderson. I shipped back to the U.S. in late
August 1960 from ASCOM City to the USNS Hugh Gaffney again to Oakland, California,
where I was released from active duty and transferred to the Army Reserves.

Comments: I was in Korea at Camp Irwin May 1969- June 1970. We were asked to help guard by the DMZ right away not because of skirmishes but the villagers were stealing supplies that an Engineering Bn was building bunkers with and they couldn’t work plus guard so requested help. I have a pending AO claim with presumptive conditions. So far denials are no proof we were asked to help guard. However I have photos with Imjin River your in background, bunkers being built, eating in the contaminated soil, pics of a pup tent year and dead vegetation. Info inet provides states Camp Irwin by Pobwon-ni was 9 mi from DMZ but our camp wasn’t considered along DMZ. Looking for any info that could be helpful as Army cannot find records from Co clerk showing day rosters of soldiers. Also if there was Engineering Bn vets who were there at that time and had knowledge of surrounding camps being asked to help might be helpful

Comments: Just saw Chuck Breider’s post from 2005! I remember you well, Chuck. I reinstituted
the Bell & Anvil “newspaper” and was in HQ detachment in 1963-64, seldom pulling
any real MP duty although I was a 951.
I ran with a Texan named Larry Hyman and a California dude named “Willie”
Young.
Lt. Col. Leroy Pierce Frank was the battalion commander, a great guy.
Hope you’re well. It was good to hear from you ... finally!
