The unit broken up and I was reassigned to 31st Inf., in Camp Casey until Aug or Sept. 1962. I have some great memories and some bad memories. One of our platoon members, Childers drowned while swimming during a rare break in routine, a company picnic. We were in the field almost every week, practicing war, without ammo. Life in barracks was in quanset huts with two space heaters, both running red hot on the colder nights. Mickey mouse boots and white uniform covers were other winter memories. I still get cold when I remember the marches in winter. I can also remember the holes in the perimeter fence behind the huts and visits during the night.

He was on the DMZ line, Camp Casey and he was also a mail carrier and he spoke of being a "secret mail carrier", my mother can't remember his exact wording and we cannot find his deposition at this time. He had documents in a suit case that he was delivering and a big explosion happened. It blew up quite a bit and the chemicals burned him awful. I am waiting for his service medical records and I have been told to get his "orders"? I would like to know if ANYONE knows what he was talking about or was there. He also talks about Agent Orange being there. Now alot of people have said to me that No Agent Orange was not sprayed yet. Well my father and other men spoke of chemical barrels being stored on site etc. They drank the water, sat on the ground, walked through the bushes etc. Thank god it wasn't as bad as it did get but I still think it started earlier but I am not sure of what time frame if anyone could help me WOULD BE GREAT! My mother after 21 years has still not remarried and still 100% dedicated to my father and I feel that Dad was trying to get them benefits before he passed away and I am going to keep trying. Comments: My father passed away several years ago and was in the process of going to the National Association of Atomic Veterans for help with his Hodgkins disease being related to chemicals in Korea. Thank you! God Bless!! xoxoxo

Comments: I am looking for anyone who may have served with or knew my father. He served in Company C, 1st BN 9th Infantry, 2nd Division from around February 1967 through March 1968. He then served the remainder of his time in service at Ft. Hood. I rescently came across letters he had written to my mother during his time in Korea and am interested in learning more about his military service. He passed away in March of 1978. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Comments: Hi There,

My name is Ron Weber. I was at Camp Casey in from March 1967 to December 1968. I am looking for a detailed map of the camp around that time.

Specifically, I was first brought to the camp and stationed at what I think was the north end of the camp. I was assigned to a unit as a tower guard. I remember there was also a canine unit there with some pretty nasty shepards or pinchers, I cannot remember which. I was only there a very short time and was sent down to the center of the camp to HHC and Band as a clerk. I was given a secret clearance and assigned a job as a legal clerk. Here is my real problem. As I was only assigned to the unit right at the DMZ fence for a very short time, I cannot remember the name of it. I just remember having to sleep for eight hours in a barracks that was blacked out. Then I was in a guard tower for another eight hours (around midnight to 8:00 am). I hated it and got clasterphopia sort of. I asked for a transfer and the sent me down to HHC where I spent the rest of my tour. I have been fighting numerous health problems for the last 3-4 decades and just recently found out that everything I had appeared to relate to Agent Orange exposure. I contacted the VA and they told me there was Agent Orange sprayed all around Camp Casey and that I needed to submit a claim right away. I did and the six months later (last week) was denied based on my location. Basically HHC and Band was not on the list of accepted companies for the claim. My doctor and other Korean vets assure me that this is not true. Most, if not all of Camp Casey was exposed to the chemical. Also, the brief stay at the Tower Guard Unit would have put me right in the direct exposed area, but as I was there only a short time, there is no file on me at that location. Also, we camped (bivoaced) in numerous areas, went to the rifle range, and as I used to be an avid runner and Mt Climber, I used to jog all through the camp for the 15 months I was there.

Basically, I just need to know a couple of things.

a. Does anyone know the name of the Tower Guard and Canine Unit.
b. Is there a detailed map show exactly where my Unit was. Part of the time I was at HHC and band, I spent some time (a few months as a clerk) at the motor pool. It was right on a small creek. We used to drink the water right out of the creek.

Sooo, there I am. I apologize extremely for asking such a big favor from a perfect stranger. However, I am desperate to move forward on a claim as I am getting sicker all the time. My doctor and other tell me not to worry, as the Army always denies the claims for Agent Orange on the first try. But I do worry as I want my wife to have an income in the event something happens to me. I am already on Social Security Disability after working for 32 years. I just don't want us to grow old broke. (I am almost 57 years old. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time. ANYTHING you can do will be most appreciated. God Bless and take care.

2. I am also looking for info about an incident when a group of North Korean infiltrators came through the DMZ I remember being called up to go after them, but they were alread killed or taken prisoner before my unit got there. Does anyone remember this. It was sometime around the Pueblo Incident.
