Comments: I arrived at Stanton Field in late Nov 66. The cold and the smell were
a NEW experience for a 17 year old Floridian. I was fresh out of
Huey school at Eustis.
It seemed like a fairly Spartan existence, platoons double bunked in
Quonset huts, boiling on the top bunk, freezing on the bottom bunk,
walking to a different building for latrines and showers, a single foot
locker and wall locker for all belongings, and some Roy Orbison nut
playing his songs on a stereo from 1700 to Taps.
I never saw a Huey for the entire tour, but man oh man, the CH21's,
H34's and Ch37's that flew in made a lot of racket.
I was a switchboard operator for several months and can assure you
that MASH got it wrong. It was almost impossible to get a call
through to the states.
Doing a night patrol on the DMZ with ACTA was the single scariest
thing I've ever done in my life, and that includes 30 months in RVN
including Tet of 68.
If Howard Baker is still out there, give me a shout. I have a
photograph of you tangled up in the switchboard. INTREPID out!

sides of the family but it was not. I'm severely
handicapped. I found out some disturbing news today.
We went to the VA today to put in for his Grave foot
Marker, we ended up being there for 4 hours, we found
out Daddy was exposed to Agent Orange. They told Us
that was likely the reason he got prostate cancer and
the reason I was born with Handicapped. The Army knew
it was dangerous poison but used it any way. It was
sprayed to kill all vegetation, Trees etc... so the
Vietnamese couldn't hide and to flush them out of their
villages. Daddy was living near one of those villages,
he told me that during what they called a field mission
he was over come by the fumes and passed out he would
have died but a Korean lady found him and got him help.
If I can prove that he was near the DMZ The VA may help
with my medical bills. I know he worked in the Motor
Pool and I think he was at camp mackenzie maybe in
seoul barbara or kimpo. Does anybody know if this was
near the DMZ?

Comments: I was in the FSE (Fire Support Element), and lived in
T-26, which housed FSE and S-3 enlisted men, Graham,
Tirch, Smith Sowden, McCarthy, Carvalho, Romans,
Shay, Vera, Katusas Han and Kim, houseboy Yon, and a
couple of others whose names I don't recall. BC was
Capt Chucklin Chuck, succeeded by the idiot Capt
Dinkins, and Sgt Fite was the 1st shirt. In FSE we
had LTC Fields, Maj Wubenna, Maj Buck, MSG Craig, MSG
Strauch, and SFC Groeblinghoff. We garrisoned with
Div Arty, but went to the field with Div HQ and
worked out of the TOC.

Looking for anyone who was there during that time to
talk to, there doesn't seem to be many of us left. I
did the Morning Reports, Duty Rosters, and Spec.Op's.
Keywords: I played guitar and performed in Gaither Hall. Our
Group was called the EDPAC'S. Some of the guys I

TAB), and many more.
