Comments: In 1962 the University of Korea Seoul did a study to see what herbicides would kill
the vegetation along the DMZ. The test plots were under Freedom Bridge and I have
a picture of the results of one of the test plots but it is VERY important that we
find a copy of the test results to prove that toxic herbicides were used earlier
than 1968. Does anyone have Korean connections that can find a copy of that report
for those of us who are pushing to get the presumptive date back to the early 60's.

Comments: July 1, 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 2IDs return to Korea after the cease fire in the Korean War. The 2ID played a major role in the Korean War and it was appropriate that the Division return to continue to play a major role in guarding Freedoms Frontier.
On that day in July, the 1st Cavalry Division was reflagged as the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Howze which was Division HQ at the time. The 2nd Indianhead Division Association is organizing a return trip for 2IDA members that were present at the reflagging and for other DMZ veterans that would like to go. We anticipate a group of about 25-30 and are still working out the details. We are working on the eligibility for participation. We are beginning a major fundraising effort to help offset the cost of the trip for the returning veterans and need to know the level of interest in this trip. The tentative plan is to depart Los Angeles about June 26 or 27, 2015 to return about July 3. You will need a current passport. If you are interested, please let us know via the Send E-mail foo. Your e-mail is not a commitment, but merely an expression of interest. The leadership of the active 2ID has generously agreed to help with planning the celebration events and perhaps some tours of the area. The 2ID Commanding General and Command Sergeant Major are already at work This can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Please let us know now so we can continue our planning.

He has been classified as disabled by the VA because of his Agent Orange exposure while doing recon on the DMZ during that time. He has several of the conditions recognized by the VA and he was quite lucky the process didn't take as long as for some of you. My question is are there Vets that were at Camp Rose and on the DMZ at that time that are on this site? If so I would like to know if any of you are having trouble with your bones? My husband has had both hips replaced, his back completely rebuilt and a broken elbow that they had to remove the radial head. There is nothing in his family history to account for this kind of trouble. I am wondering if there are other conditions that Vets are suffering from that the VA has not recognized. Any info would be helpful. For many of our 43 years together I have thought there had to be some cause for as many problems as he has had other than it was just getting older. Thank you for your time. Ginny Wascher

One puzzle was the names of the two camps we rotated back and forth from. One was in the zone just north of the Freedom bridge and the other just south of that bridge. I have pictures of both camps and can send them to you with the hope that you can named them.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Dennis Klein is seeking GIs who were present at a student Invasion on the DMZ following the Blue House incident that took place either January 24th or 25th, 1968.
Approximately 200 unescorted, unsupervised and unchaperoned high school students took it upon themselves to attack the Freedom Bridge. Their intent was to get across the border and be martyred causing an escalation of the conflict resulting in full scale war ultimately bring about the reunification of North and South Korea. The frenzy resulted in a few broken bones and other minor injuries. But the GIs kept the peace and made sure these kids were turned away and sent home.
This story was recently featured on news services throughout South Korea. So far it has generated a tale of another, wholly separate protest that involved students, police and the military that took place on February 7th. We are NOT interested in the February 7th event.
WE ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN THE PROTEST THAT TOOK PLACE ON JANUARY 24TH OR 25TH 1968 AT FREEDOM BRIDGE.
If you were there, knew anyone was there or have any knowledge of this event PLEASE CONTACT DENNIS KLEIN at dklein@boundarysolutions.com

Comments: I am looking for vets or others who might remember the IRFERS and BURFERS (Instant Reaction Force and Back-up Reaction Force) that trained as air assault soldiers in UH-1 helicopters in the spring and summer of 1968. Also looking for the name of the aviation units that flew the Hueys. We were pick-up at Camp Stanley (near CRC - I Corps Area) and flown to rendezvous areas, deployed, then picked-up and returned to base.
This would apply to any G.I. assigned to the 36th Engineer Group at that time.
Thank you.

Comments: Dear Vets, as seen before on this site, i am in search of anyone who may have served with Michael Scafuto (aka Mikey Stache) in Korea, 1969-1970, not sure name of camp, 8th AHQ, 7th Inf.Div., 305th SigBat, one good buddy by name of Hudgens. Michael passed away last year after a battle with kidney/lung cancer, type II diabetes and came home with a skin disorder which we are sure was chloracne. I have promised my husband to continue his claim as he asked me to. He spoke often of Pork Chop Hill and told many stories of going to and from the dmz areas for various reasons. He also had something to do with the 199th? His MOS was 76y20Supply. Any help is important. TYVM for your service.
