Ghost Walkers were a night patrol unit and they went north on occasion to do intelligence retrieval for 8th Army. I believe they were stationed out of ASCOM Depot and Skinny talked about seeing barrels of spray on the loading docks of ASCOM when they went out the back gate in July of 63. I just finished reading Gary Gable's novel "Denial of Conflict" A great book that captures life on the DMZ during the DMZ War. If you served on the DMZ in the late 60's or early 70's this is one book you need to read. Never has book been so well written of a generation of GI's who have been forgotten.

Comments: Question for anyone. When I went from Ft Bennings to South Korea, my orders said I was assigned to the 7th AG Admin Co APO 96207. My orders included several other GI's going to Korea and assigned to the same 7th AG Admin Co.
I'm sure that was to get me there and I probably was assigned to another unit. but being 74 years old, I really don't remember. I just remember the 7th Infantry Division at Camp Casey.
Then when I got out , my DD214 shows my last unit as HHC 7th Infantry Div
I was a Recon Specialist Sgt E5 and remember going on patrols but not much else. The VA rep requested my military records, and sent them to me, but I cannot see an order assigning me to an infantry unit after I got there.
My question is does anyone else out there have the same experience or did you actually get orders assigning you to a sub unit of the 7th Infantry Div.

I have been helping my friend and 1SG Brian Koeman with his VA claim, He served in Korea, Camp Kyle, March 1969 - April 1970. as you all know finding the link that he served near or on the DMZ has been difficult. as you all know who are doing the same thing, the VA is mainly approving the claim if you served in a specific unit.
Brian's orders sending him to Korea attached him to the 177th AG Replacement Co. Luckly while he was there he was promoted. On his promotion orders his unit was HQ & A Company Maintenance Battalion and in the comments his promotion was recommended by 21st Direct Support Group. none of these units are listed on the VA approved unit list who they agree served in or near the DMZ.
Actually the mission of the 21st Direct Support Group was It’s mission was to provided direct support maintenance for the 2nd Infantry, the 7th Infantry, I Corps Gp and 1st ROK Army areas. This is the link for Exposure to Agent Orange. the approved units on the VA lists are 2nd & 7th Infantry.
Go to the below link, find the 21st Direct Support Group and you will find the documentation to prove you were support for the 2nd Infantry, the 7th Infantry, I Corps Gp and 1st ROK Army areas.

Comments: I arrived in Korea in September 1959 on the USNS Hugh Gaffney. I served most of my
tour as an M-47 tank crewman at HQ Company, but was transferred to B Company around
June or July 1960. I only remember supply sergeant SFC Colvin, and some of my crew
members: PFC Tony Gargano (from New Haven, CT), Martinez (from Puerto Rico), Billy
Hines (from Ireland), PFC Budden and Sp/5 Anderson. I shipped back to the U.S. in late
August 1960 from ASCOM City to the USNS Hugh Gaffney again to Oakland, California,
where I was released from active duty and transferred to the Army Reserves.

After two submissions of my evidence to the U.S. Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, KY 40122-5408 I was finally awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for the firefight that my patrol was in on the night of April 12,1969.
My awards letter reads in part:
“This is in further response to your request concerning your desire to receive the Combat Infantry Badge.
Based on the documentation provided, we have verified your entitlement to the Combat Infantry Badge (permanent order and badge enclosed) and the Korea Defense Service Medal. The enclosed DD form 215 amends your DD214 to reflect your entitlement to this award. This information has been forwarded to the National Personnel Records Center for inclusion in your Army Military Human Resources Records.”
