Comments: Comments: I was seeking information on my uncle John Csehi. He never spoke about his service and anyone that would have information is long gone. Information I have, Army, artillery unit . I do have a few of his metals, one is a presidential unit citation . Reviewing the lists of those awards, I can only find two that includes an artillery unit is why I am assuming either the 10th field artillery or the 39th is his unit . Only other information I have is my mom stating he would wake up screaming at night for years. Reading the details of the awards explains alot.

Comments: My father, nickname "AJ" Mack served in Korea and was a Corporal in the supply area. He enlisted before the war began and served in the Army for three years. He remembers Sgt. Whitner (possibly spelled Whitener), Brown and Pearson in S4 Supply, and Staff Sgt. Kelso. He landed in Wan San on the east coast, past the 38th parallel. HQ Battery, Service Battery, 3 Firing Batteries were A, B, and C. They added a fourth D (Dog) Battery - they were Philipino. 105MM Howitzer he believes could fire up to seven miles if it was on a low slant. Service Battery delivered the shells to the Firing Batteries. My dad is 90. It would be great to hear from anyone that may have served in this area and time in Korea. All of my dad's pictures from his time in the service were lost in a fire.

Comments: I was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany from July 1966 until January 1968. I've
been able to locate 10 of the men that I served with in Service Battery and 3 of
of us have had throat cancer. I was wondering if any more men that served there
during that time or any other time have had that terrible disease. I thought it very
odd that 3 out of the 10 that I've been able to contact had that same cancer. Throat
cancer is what they call a smoker/drinker's cancer and I did neither all my life. I
would like to know if anyone knows anyone that lived at Ledward Barracks and has
had throat cancer. I read that 1% of adults will be diagnosed with this cancer. That's
a small percentage but when 30% of the men that I was able to contact had throat
cancer then I got to thinking that it may have been cause by something in those
barracks. Two of us were in the ammo section and the other was in maintenance.
I also read that asbestos can cause throat cancer. In those building asbestos was
used.

If you can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Edward Burton

We ran in step and lots of times Sgt Shin would take
someone's rifle giving him two rifles. We would hold
it out with the right hand, then the left hand, out
with both hands, over our head and then let it hang
down to rest. We ran with our boots and not running

E-5 and above could stay out all night. I remember David Ham. We were the first unit to get the M109 155. I stayed in the Army for 20 years and retired. The 39th was the best years of my Military career. I never met anyone from the unit during the 20 years I stayed in until I was processing out for retirement. I met an E-6 at Ft. Riley after all the years. I retired in 1982. I was the 1st Sgt. of Delta and Service Batteries for a period of 5 years.

Comments: I served in B battery,3'd Gun Bn,39'th Field artillery at Dachau, Germany, in 1959. We were a seperate battery armed with M-65 280 mm rifles-- Atom Annie.
We had live nukes without safeguards and a missiont to back up Second Geman Corps or the US 11 Armored Cav
( Col. Signeious ). ALso we patroled the Hof Gap with our nukes, sitting astride the classic invasion route from the east-- well ahead of the 4th AD, but behing the 11 ACR, Black Horse.
Battery comanders were Cecil Pounder Davis from Missippi and Bob Weekly, USMA.
I have seen photos of the 280 mm guns in Korea.
Since I was an Armor Officer, and thus untrained in Artillery, I found commnding a 280 Gun an amusing experience, indeed.
My basic degree is from the Citadel and so I studied under Mark Clark who also commanded in Korea.
I resigned from the Army, went to South Carolina Law, rejoined the Navy Reserve and eventually retired as a Capitan of Naval intelligenc in 1994. I supect I was one of the last 280 Gunners in uniform. RHM

Comments: Trying to locate anyone who might have served with my father in Korea. He was assigned to the 3rd Division, 39th Field Artillery Btn. out of Ft. Benning, GA. His name is Marvin (A.K.A. Buster) Dover and he is from Alabama. I am not sure of the exact service time but it was before January 1952.

Any information you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you for your service to our country.
