Comments: My father, Edward Henry Michalek, on the 7th of October, 1951 and received the purple heart. He also received the Korean Service Medal with 2 stars. He fired a 8-inch howitzer and I believe he was part of "C" Battery. Even though he was from New York State, he was attached to a unit out of Virginia. I have a large scrap book of black and white photos of him on the front line. There are images of other soldiers. I would like to identify as many people as possible. If anyone believes they can help me with this please contact me.

Comments: My father, William Herbert Murphy, deployed with the 31st Dixie Division NG and was attached to the 780th Field Artillary in August 1951 in Kajon-ni Korea. Sadly, he passed away in 2015 and rarely spoke of his military career (29yrs). He attended and enjoyed seeing his friends at the 780th reunions.
I recently found several (about 30) old photos taken during his service in Korea. I've attempted to identify the locations/people with little success. I will gladly share these digital images (once scanned) with anyone interested. Also, I would enjoy hearing from anyone who knew him or can share stories of their common experience. I appreciate any feedback from anyone interested in collaborating.

Comments: 8 inch fire support saved the nights for the ROK Capital Division bunker complex my father (an American with 30 other Americans and about 190 ROKs) was in from July 13 to 22 July 1953. They were cut off and surrounded. Only the 8 inch batteries could give them fire support for the first week.
WHICH 8 inch group provided this support? They were east of the Heartbreak and Bloody Ridge area and west of the Punch bowl on Steel Ridge.
During the last Chinese offensive in July 1953, The ROK Army took the burnt of the offensive. The ROK Capital Division began to fall back but was hit by enemy forces at this time causing units to fall back farther than intended. One of the 21 strong points survived because of Lt. Col Kim. He rallied those ROK soldiers who were willing to fight into the bunker complex. Inside this bunker complex was an American 3 man FAC (forward air controller) and an American 28 man unit testing battlefield radar with AA weapons. The combination of guts, leadership with a little bit of help by air and 8 inch artillery support guided by radar at night and in the fog, saved this unit from being wiped out.
