Comments: My friend Normand died a few weeks ago. He served with the Battery C, 936th Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Eighth Army. He was a very decent and kind man who like so many others of every war never spoke about his experiences. He did mention once about a battle he was in where they had to put snow on the machine guns to keep then cool enough to keep defending against the attack of Chinese troops. God bless him.

The thing is he didn't talk much about it and I was too young to remember much about him. Just reaching out to you guys to see if anyone on here knows about Fred Witcraft from neilsville, WI.
That and any information on the history of the 980th and where they served and the units they where in support of would be greatly appreciated!

Comments: I am the director of the California State Military Museum located in Sacramento.
We would like the former members of the 40th ID that we have established a archives here at the museum. We are making a major effort to preserved the photos, records, and papers of the members of the division and make them available to historians, researchers, and family members.
The current 40th ID HQ has already transferred all of their photos from WWII, the official 40th Signal Co combat camera set as well as other collections of the Division's history.
If you can get this out to your members, we would appreciate it.

Comments: I made this entry because my e-mail address has changed. I started out with Btry A on 1 Sep 50 at Camp Cooke. Held various jobs in the battery and in Bn Hq. Was exec of Btry A when we arrived in Japan and went through the battery test. Then was a Liaison Officer and made a couple of trips around Japan as an umpire for other units taking the battery test. When we got to Korea, I transferred to Div Arty Hq as an Air Observer and also was a duty officer in the Fire Support Coordination Center assigning FO's an AO's fire missions to the different battalions. I left Korea in June '52.

My dad served in Korea from 1952 until 1953 in the 980th, FA, Bn, A battery. He had taken several picture books full of service pictures including a picture of his battery firing the 300,000th round out of a 105 howitzer some where near the Chorwon area in 1952. Another E-mail had asked for names of A battery servicemen, hopefully these might help: CPL Herman S. Spayed; PFC Ernest Oldham; CPL. Joseph A. Tenoze; PFC Phil Drago; Alvin Bethany; Lowell Karston; Eldon Harvey; Cherry Walters; Bob Miller. He also always identified a Sargeant Skinner who he said was a very fine Black gentleman to serve under. Dad passed away in Sept. of 1997. If you served or if any of this information would help in any way, please feel free to call. Your service wasn't forgotten in Kansas.
