Comments: I am putting together a list of all our family members who served in the military since 1938. I have a poor picture of William Walthal in Korea. He appears to be an E6 and is standing by a 155mm artillery piece. The back of the picture says 623rd fa bn. Does anyone know anything about him?

Comments: My father served in the 623rd in Korea. His name was William Paul Graham, and went by Paul. He was a minister, and he said that some in his unit referred to him as Preacher Boy. His highest rank was Sgt. Dad spoke very little about his time in Korea. If you know anything about him, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you.

His name is: Billy Joe Lowery, he was from Georgia and he was
in the Army as a Corpral, his Unit was the 623rd Hq. Btry,
Specialty: Field Artillery Batallian. He survived the war, but
later died in a boating incident in the Gulf of Mexico.

If anyone if interested in viewing these pictures I have
provided a link to the ablum. It is free, all you have to do is
copy and paste this link into your web browser.

I do not know any of the names of the people in these photos,
but maybe you do. Feel free.

soldier in the 623rd FA Battalion who died 12 years
before I was born - on June 6, 1952, from injuries
sustained in a May 21 vehicular accident. I would
like to connect with anyone who served with my Uncle
John, especially those who knew him well and/or

in advance for getting back to me; your insights and
remembrances will be a huge blessing to my family,

Comments: I was a draftee assigned to the 623 and served in Korea from 1/1952 to 7/1953. Received orders to return 3 days after the armistice. Chief of section and did much firing. We replaced Kentucky guardsmen who were short timers and anxious to return. I was told their commander offered the Guard for korea and he had to return a few months after arriving. It didn't sit well with the men. Our unit was intergrated and we had a black track driver named Hazelwood. It was no problem with our crew.
Returned to US the only draftee to make SFC on the ship. I have many pictures and fond memories.

Comments: I was a Korean civilian in A Battery, commanded by Captain Pace. In the summer of 1952, ROK 7th Division initiated an offensive operation, and I vlunteered to go with the forward observer team attached to a ROK Battalion. We marched all day and, in late afternoon, we forded a river. The Chinese Force gave us a substantial mortar barage and everybody hopped through the river like rabbits, and climbed into a hill. I had an attack of leg cramp and had no choice but to stay in the water, being left behind. After the barage, I hobbled out of the water, and tried to scale the hill on on leg. A young forwaard observer, a young RA Lieutenant, put me on his back and carried me piggy-back up the hill. ROKs were very impressed by the compassionate act.
Some serenaded us by singing "My Old Kentucky Home."

Time has gone by and I am getting old, and I do not even remember his name. I think the name of the radio operator was "Wilson." I never thanked him, and it has been bugging me.

Wherever he may be today, I would like to say "thank you" to him. Without him, I could have been left behind somewhere in that valley
They cancelled the operation next day, and we came back in one piece.

Thank you, Lieutenant!

Suchoon Mo, Ph.D.
