Comments: My father, Clarence Rodgers, passed away March 22, 2011. He
volunteered for service in Jan. of 1951. Everyone who knew this man
would agree the man was a saint. He was badly wounded in an enemy
artillery barrage. During the shelling he made his way back to a bunker
to destroy or retrieve sensitive material although most comrades had
already been forced to retreat.
The next day he couldn't move and initially was listed as a victim of
shell shock. However, when he got to hospital it was found his internal
organs had been badly injured by artillery percussion. However, the
battle fatigue listing was never corrected to his record. Therefore he
never received his hard earned Purple Heart. He continued to suffer
from this injuries all his life. His Army injury records were destroyed by
an Army Warehouse fire in Maryland. He rarely, if ever mentioned his
Army Service because the US Army continued to falsely listed him as a
shell shock victim; although he spent months in an Army hospital in
Japan and was sent back to the front lines afterwards. He was a proud,
brave man who gave his health to the US Army which refused to honor
him with a much deserved Purple Heart during his lifetime. I'm
currently in the process of having a tombstone made onto which I wish
I could add a Purple Heart. My mother, his wife Yvonne, died of a
stroke just weeks after her husbands passing and had written to the
Army asking them to do justice to her husbands war record. They were
married just a few days before he was shipped to Korea. And as all
military families during wartime, she suffered during his time serving
his county. Especially the two months when he was injured and she had
no way of knowing what had happened to him. If anyone out there
could correct my father's Army record it would be appreciated beyond
all the thank you's I could give. Clarence Terry Rodgers. One can find
his obituary on Google by doing a search on Clarence Theron Rodgers.
Thank You To all Veterans!
