Comments: My Dad's unit was surrounded for 3 days Nov. 28 - 30, 1950 at Kunu-ri. Things seemed hopeless until the 503 broke through N. Korean and Chinese forces so they could get out. He thought this unit was called the "Triple Nickle", 555. All these years, we couldn't find much about the Triple Nickle. I do believe it was the 503rd Artillery Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Division who saved them. An all black unit, he wondered about that unit his entire adult life. He passed in '15. Every so often I get a spiritual nudge to look into this for him. So, here I am!!
His name was Jack Barrett.

South Korea during the period Jul '52 thru Jul '53 please contact me.

Included are photos of a CSMO on Nov 5, '52 toward Kumwha Valley involving the
accidental overturning of two of our howitzers on frozen mountain roads. Then Sec
of State Anna Rosenburg happened to inspect that operation and cut our booze ration
saying we shouldn't have access to liquor in a combat zone.
