Comments: My uncle (Sonnie Boy) Henry Earl Box of CROCKETT, TEXAS while serving with the 96th FA received the Bronze Star w/Valor and was also awarded the Purple Heart. The Citation reads as follows; on Nov.7,1950, just north of the 38th parallel in a place called Yonghung, North Korea Btry C was under attack from the North Koreans, Pvt Box completely completely ignored enemy fire and made his way to an exposed machine gun mounted on a truck. Despite his proximity to a burning ammunition truck and a hail of enemy automatic weapon fire, Henry tenaciously remained at his precarious post, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy until he accomplished his vital mission of repulsing the enemy. Henry was awarded the Bronze Star w/Valor for that act and he also received the Purple Heart for the Head and Ear wounds that he sustained while engaging the enemy.
