Comments: I am an historian and author. My website is www.freedomhistory.com. My last book was OUR HALLOWED GROUND: THE WORLD WAR TWO VETERANS OF FORT SNELLING (University of Minnesota Press). My latest book includes Vietnam and Korea.

One of the veterans I am profiling Corporal Gerald McQuerry was KIA on Dec 1, 1950 at Kunu-ri while serving with Battery A.

Did anyone know him? Did anyone serve in Battery A of the 503rd? Would anyone like to share any reminiscences of the 503rd at Kunu-ri? Does anyone have any photos to share?

I am interested in profiling him and in honoring the service of the 503rd. Thanks.

I found RAYMOND WARE a neighbor and family friend that we have been looking for since he was listed as "missing" during the Korean War. I was elated to see there was a family DNA SAMPLE taken but saddened to see he was a POW and died a captive. This information brings closure to me and my family. We all loved Raymond as he was "a gentle giant" and always looked out for those of us who were younger than him. Just one question: just to be sure, can you determine if he was an African American? Raymond was.

Only to find themselves behind enemy lines. Their covering fire encompass 360 degrees and after everything was said and done only 20% of the men of the 503rd were accounted for. My father Capt.Robert G Greer (Retired) rarely talk about Korea besides the fact that in his mind body and soul, it was the coldest place on earth. In June of 2000 he went back to Korea as part of a Presidential Commission to celebrate the 50th Anniversary Korean War. My mother said after that trip the demons of war were laid to rest. Comments: I discovered this site while trying to learn about a soldier who died in Korea, Pvt. Edwin N. Love. I don't know if any one who visits here knew him or has any memories of Pvt. Love but that really isn't important to me just now. I learned today that Pvt. Love was a young African American man who lost his life serving in the Army during the Korean conflict. I wanted to write this note and say that I am truly enriched for having learned of him and his contribution. Pvt. Edwin N. Love has a street named after him in Yonkers NY and when my girlfriend rescued the beautiful cast iron street sign which was about to be "retired", I began my search to discover who Edwin Love was.

To his family, his friends who may believe he is lost in our history. Please know that Edwin N. Love is remembered, and I will pass on this small fact of our local Westchester NY history to all who care to listen.

Peace and Blessings to all who read this and to all who have a loved one who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Comments: My father, SFC (R) Ellis Allen, was captured on 1 Dec 1950, at Kunu-Ri Pass. He worked in the message center of HQ, 503d FA Bn.

Internment at Camp 5 from Jan 1951 to Aug 1952; Camp 4 from Aug 1952 to Big Switch. He was known as "Big Al".

My father presently resides in Kansas City, Missouri. My father would like for me to be the intermediary via e-mail.

Thank you.

Comments: I am a journalist with the Fort Leavenworth Lamp, and I'm writing a story on Sgt. Ellis Ezra Allen, of the 503rd FA, (known as "Big El") who was interned at Camp 5.
I have been unable to verify the numbers of deaths at the camp early in the winter of 1951 (mid-Jan. to the end of Feb or thereabouts). Sgt. Allen recalls approximately 1,400 of the 3-4,000 in the camp died, mostly from dysentery and typhus. He recalls that they were temporarily buried across the river and then reburied properly in the spring by a Turkish unit.
Any substantiation of this information would be most appreciated.
