He was in 25 Infantry Division, 8th Artillery, A-Battery (105mm), located at Schofield Barracks. Trying to identify his unit structure from top to bottom. Pentomic reorg appears to have removed the 8th Artillery from 25th Infantry Division; can anyone explain? Dad's old uniform certainly has the 25 ID patch on the shoulder.

His records were burned in the fire and the military says he can't get his pension because he can't prove he ever was in Korea even though they have his discharge papers. He says that he was court-martialed over there for punching someone who desperately deserved it so there should be some record of that at least.
If you knew him you might be able to help him prove he was there in Korea. If you have any suggestions for me, let me know.

I would like to find out what the 8th Army did there. My dad lost his hearing during the war and wore hearing aids for the rest of his life. He also had jungle rot in his legs and spent some time on Long Island when he was discharged for battle fatigue. He re-enlisted, though, and put in 20 years total, retiring in Sept of 1964. He died in 1998 and is buried in Bay Pines Cemetery in Florida.
He would never talk much about the war, except to tell me he lost his Companys' mascot at Pearl on the day of the attack -- a bulldog.

Comments: Dear friends:
I am writing a book about a man named Fernando "Hard Luck" Corral who served in Charlie Company, 8th Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division in Korea. He served there in 1951 and 1952 and saw action in Ch'orwan, the Iron Triangle, Punch Bowl, Mungdungni Valley, and Kumhwa Valley.
I would like to have correspondence with anyone who knew Corral, the Mexican bullfighter who operated a 105mm howitzer. He got the nickname "Hard Luck" because of several bizarre incidents. One of these incidents occurred when, during heavy fighting, his hand got stuck in the howitzer.
I would also like to know the approximate dates when his unit, Charlie Company, was in the Iron Triangle, the Punch Bowl, Mungdungni and Kumhwa valleys and in Ch'orwan, as well as any descriptions of the fighting and conditions there.
Any assistance to me on this will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Travis M. Whitehead
