Comments: I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who might remember, or know anything about, my uncle, Paul Kearney, who I believe fought with the 38th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Division, in Korea in 1950-1951. I believe Paul served as a meteorologist in the HQ Battery. He physically survived the passage through the Gauntlet, manning a machine gun on a 2-1/2 ton truck. According to our family tradition, he was among the last soldiers to make it through the Gauntlet.
I might be confused on the relationship of the 38th Artillery Battalion with the 38th RCT. Was the 38th FA considered a battalion of the 38th RCT, or attached to the regiment, or just in coincidental proximity during the battle? Does anyone have the organizational chart with principle officers listed for the battalion and the regiment during the time of the battle?

Hello,
We’re nearing the 54th anniversary of my Uncle Ted’s alleged death. After finding your website (which is really outstanding), maybe some out there might know exactly what happened to Uncle Ted during his time in the Korean War. I never met my Uncle Ted (he was missing or possibly dead five years before I was born). He was only 18 at the time of his disappearance/capture and I would like to know what happened to him up to the time of his capture or death. His body was never recovered nor any remains were ever returned to the USA. My mother, (Ted’s sister) is the only surviving member of his parents and siblings. If anyone that reads this could verify that Uncle Ted actually died in combat (or was captured), my mother and I would like to know. She grieves everyday and misses him very much. Any information about Ted and his last known whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has any pictures with or of Uncle Ted, we would love to see them. I thank you for your kind help and for Google (the search engine) that helped me find your excellent website.

I am in the process of trying to document his military career (1934 to 1962) and gather any information, stories, etc. on his life. Fortunately, my grandfather was wounded during a rocket attack on or about Nov. 26, 1950. He was lucky enough (we think according to some records) to get evacuated before the unit was over run.
Again, any information would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I do have a few orginal documents (commendations, etc.) on the 38th FA unit and would be happy to send copies to anyone who would them. My grandmother recently passed away and we finally found his army locker with some military and health records.
Thanks,
Jeff Daniel

Comments: My uncle, JOSEPH JOHN PUOPOLO, is still listed as MIA. He served with a man named FRANCIS MCCARTY who told my family how he died. Though I never heard the story first hand, I believe he was killed in an explosion on a train. My uncle was around 18 years old when he died and I never had the honor of meeting him. He was from East Boston and I would love to be able to know more about him so I can tell my family about him. Thank you!
