My Dad served in Korea 4/53 - 11/53 as a forward observer in the 980th
FA Battalion, Battery C, in the 40th Infantry Division. (He received
a Bronze Star during his tour of duty. He didn't ask me to write that,
but I'm proud of it!) He has no email, so he asked me to add to this
site on his behalf. If anyone reads this who served with him, he
would love to hear from you.

I served in the 980th from 1 Sep 50 until we arrived in Korea in Jan 52.
I was then transferred to Hq Div Arty as an Air Observer. I also pulled
a night shift in the Div Arty Fire Support Coordination Center (FSCC)
in addition to flying missions.

Looking for other former members of the 980th to join in a reunion of
the 224th Inf Regt in Colorado Springs, CO in October 1998 since we
were part of the 224th Regimental Combat Team.

I am looking for names of those who served in the 980th FABN during
the Korea War. I am particularly short of names from Service, "C" and
"A" batteries. However all names will be appreciated.

This is for my father. I would like to add his information to this
website. I have several pictures that he had taken in Korea and other
places he travelled that I would like to share with others.

He was in the 24th Inf. Div. 52nd HQ Battery - Fld. Art. And then later
on in the 40th Inf. Div. 980th HQ Bat. - Fld. Art.

He said that he was in Fire Direction Center. He also said that the
40th was a Nat. Guard outfit from California that replaced the 24th.

He arrived in Korea the day before Thanksgiving in 1951 and served there
for 1 year and 13 days. I remember several stories he told me about
certain 'situations' he was in. I am sure he would be happy to hear
from others that were in his division and would like me to show his
pictures from Korea of the men he served with.

Please let me know what I can do for this website. Thank you very much!

Regards,
Cindy Johnson

I just found your site (Korean Project) on the web. It was unbelievable
to find a map of where I was on the line.

I was in the 40th Div. with the 980th Field Artillery Battalion.

I was a forward observer 2nd Lt., right at the end of the conflict. I
was trying to find my Sgt. who with me at the time. I think he was a
son of Congress Magnuson, Washington State at that time???

Thanks again, Jim Kelley - Arty. forward observer - 7-27-53
