Comments: My maternal uncle was Theordore Landy. He was captured February 12, 1951 and died June 20, 1951 in a Prisioner of War Camp. I myself had not been born, but thru family history was able to gain this valuable information. I don't believe his remains were ever sent to my grandfather for proper burial. I am asking for any information about my uncle. He and my father were best friends. He did have a son, but never got to meet him as he was in the war when he was born. If anyone has any information about the unit, the friends he may have had, or witness his capture and death, please send me stories so that he will not be forgotten. According to your posting my uncle was captured and died around the same time frames as your father. Please feel free to email me at "fallen2@msn.com or WLigon@co.arlington.va.us"

Internment at Camp 5 from Jan 1951 to Aug 1952; Camp 4 from Aug 1952 to Big Switch. He was known as "Big Al".
My father presently resides in Kansas City, Missouri. My father would like for me to be the intermediary via e-mail.
Thank you.

Comments: I am a journalist with the Fort Leavenworth Lamp, and I'm writing a story on Sgt. Ellis Ezra Allen, of the 503rd FA, (known as "Big El") who was interned at Camp 5.
I have been unable to verify the numbers of deaths at the camp early in the winter of 1951 (mid-Jan. to the end of Feb or thereabouts). Sgt. Allen recalls approximately 1,400 of the 3-4,000 in the camp died, mostly from dysentery and typhus. He recalls that they were temporarily buried across the river and then reburied properly in the spring by a Turkish unit.
Any substantiation of this information would be most appreciated.
