Comments: My daughter just finished interviewing her Grandfather, Howard Thomas about his military career for a school report on Veterans Day. He was in the Able battery of the 49th Field Artillery Battalion in Korea from 1950-51.
He never spoke of Korea as I was growing up so I learned quite a bit too.
He has a type of yearbook of the 49th FA with names, pictures and a history of the battalion. Does anyone remember Roy or Ray Gleghorn from Bakersfield CA? He is the only name Dad ever mentioned, maybe because I was then traveling to Bakersfield.
Dad doesn't use computers but I would love to relay any messages you all might have.

Comments: My father was in Korea in 1952. I think he arrived in late
'51 and returned in late '52. He recently passed away and I
am searching for those who may have served with him. He
was in an area I believe was known as the Triangle. The
names of the back of some photos (pardon the speling)
look like Chosman/Kumhora. Names on the back of a
photo at "F" Company's OP are Capts. Johnson and
Dickenson. Also a photo of him with Capt. Stolz. Any info
greatly appreciated.

Comments: We were a Special Forces company up near the Chosin Reservoir. Shortly after the Chinese came in we were loaded onto to trucks to fly south and secure an area for X Corps Headquarters. We were driving through an artillery battery when one of the gunners shouted, "What's up in front of us?" I heard one of our guys shout back, "Just about a million Chinks." Was that y'alls unit? Does anyone remember that?

He is now deceased and I was really too young to even talk to him about the war. He didnt really talk much about it to my dad either. I have his letter stating what happened that day and his medals but thats about it. So if anyone has any pictures from around that time. Think you can email them to me? Thanks.

Comments: My father passed away this Jan 02, he seldom if ever talked about Korea and what all he did. His name was Scott Garland from S. Carolina - he was in the 49th FA, Btry C (?), in going over his papers we realized just how much has been lost, my family and I would appreciate any information on campaigns, where we could write to to get his official service record, and anything else like maybe a good book about the unit to read? He was proud to serve and right before he passed away the local VFW got for him his Korean Service Medal that their gov't gave to all those vets - his eyes filled up with joy when he received it. I appreciate any input from anyone, Thanks Sam

Comments: My father, Edwin Neil(he usually goes by Neil)Stafford, served with the 49th F.A. Batallion in Korea from 1950-1951. He was (and still is) from Mississippi. He arrived at Hungnam in late 1950 just as the Chosin Reservoir evacuees were coming in. He has related to me on numerous occasions the images he remembers from this this time. He was there about a week before they were evacuated to Puson by ship. His unit then moved north toward the 38th Parallel where he served in the Fire Direction Center. He has told me many times about a particular ambush that they were caught in by the Chinese around this area. He has described many aspects of this battle. If anyone served with him during this time, I (and he) would like to hear from you. My email address is stephen_stafford@campbellsoup.com Thanks for any information.

Comments: My dad is a veteran of many battles in Korea and Vietnam. He was at one time with the 49th F.A.B., C battery, and for at least some time was a FO. One recollection he shared with me is when MacArthur came up to his observation post at Hyesinjin(misspelled?) with a load of photographers and Maggie Higgins, this was the furthest North our forces reached, looking over into China.

He was also at the Chosin Resevoir and recounted the story of the "attack in the other direction" which some called a retreat! He told me the Chinese were so close the artillery was pointed straight at them. Also the blowing up of the port city which they witnessed from the boats. I'm sure he would love to hear from any of his buddies from Korea. You can send correspondence thru me, he has no e-mail.

God bless all of you who took part.
