Comments: Arrived Korea August 1951 and rotated May 1952. Was in flash section (which didn,t work because we couldn,t see a common target) so we just dir4ected fire with binoculars.I received an extra $50 per month combat pay the entire time I was in Korea, except for 5 days R and R in japan.
I wonder does anyone remember the general court marshall of our platoon Sgt Gale. He was charged with murder one, of a ROK soldier.

Joe passed away on Feb 11, 1989. My brothers and I are hoping that someone from the battalion or platoon members might be able to share any photos of the radar platoon during training at Fort Sill through deployment in Korea, '49-'53.

Comments: Hello my friends and fellow 1st OBers,
In 1951, Jul - Sep, I was on a Flash Ranging outpost just east of hill 1062. One night, about an hour before darkness set in, Khumwha valley opened up on my OP and the front line troops.
During counterfire and incoming shelling one round landed close enough to the forward slop of my hill that the concussion knocked me off my feet and threw me back-over the hill top. I did not learn until a few years later that my back got broken during that incident. My DAV "rep" tells me that if I can find someone* who could corroborate any of this information that should be enough to get me what I deserve-the Purple Heart Medal to supplement my 100% disability.
By any remote chance, would any of you have information that would support my argument.
Many regards,
Charles Rathburn, SFC-Ret

Comments: I just found this program on the internet and had an immediate flashback to the war. I joined the unit after landing at Inchon just as they were completing 105 Howitzer training. Since I had been trained as a Horzontal Control Operator in the States I automatically was assigned the this task in Hq. Btry. We were the last battery out of Seoul and joined every other Artillery Bn. on the banks of the Haan River and used up every shell we had including the smoke shells. After things settled down and the line began to take shape, we gave our guns to the New Zealanders and picked up our stored Observation gear and went back into the observation business. I was one of the early reservists to bring the Bn. to its full compliment. So when rotation began, it caught up with me in September of 1951 and I came home in one piece. I had a lot of friends while I was there but unfortunately I can't remember too amny names. I have pictures but no names on the back. It would be real nice to hear from someone who remembers me and whom I may remember to make the war real again. I have many good memories as well as bad memories. It's the good ones I would like to share. There have been too many years of shutting out these memories and I feel that I am now coming out of the closet to accept that it really happened.

Comments: My father arrived in Korea on 8-8-52. He was on the General John J. Pope leaving San Diego in July 1952. I am looking for information about this transport ship or anyone on it at that time.
My father is currently sick and gets excited when talking about this time of his life, and I want to give him something exciting to cheer him up.
Please respond immediately.
