Memorial Day 2025

Memorial Day May 26th, 2025

Today, we pause to Remember all those who have paid the ultimate price in Korea as well as all the wars or conflicts in which the United States has been involved. We also include all families of our allies with whom we fought alongside, in the air, on the ground and at sea.

We welcome many new people (2500) with this issue which includes repetition of information since they may not have seen our emails in the past. We do hope that this reaches many of our dormant visitors.

Our thoughts are very much with all of our 30 years worth of veteran pen-pals, all reached via our online website.

Tribute is also paid to those men and women with whom we interacted and have now passed on. RIP.

1.) WE REMEMBER

Memorial Day Remembrance has been a solemn day our entire lives. Days like this underscore our personal commitment through our work via the Korean War Project online since February 15, 1995. Growing up as sons of a USMC pilot, we were always surrounded by servicemen and family members. While our Dad was overseas in Korea, many of his enlisted men would come by when off-duty to help our mom and get a taste of home.

Never Forget

2.) We are still here, thanks to our donor/members.

Our goal is to attempt to be active for at least three more years.

On August 17th, 2023, our newsletter advisory painted a grim future for our online work. Many of you came forward to assist financially. That has allowed us a measure of breathing room. Today, we have reached another threshold due to a steep decline in donations for the Korean War Project.

Why?

Ever since Hal created the Korean War Veterans Memorial Fund in 1984 to Honor Korean War Veterans, he has been driven to honor the sacrifices of those who served, bled, and died as a result of the United States answering the call of duty.

For decades, we have known that huge errors and omissions existed in the official Department of Defense casualty databases. We worked directly with the DoD in the 1990's up to 2008 to correct the errors, but for budgetary reasons, the services were unable to fix the errors and omissions.

For reasons only the Department of Defense and the Department of Interior can explain, thousands of errors and omissions remained in the official database used for the Wall of Remembrance although we warned DoD, Interior, and the White House years ago what was about to happen.

We were ignored. That meant our thousands of supporters, contributors, and members of the Korean War Project were ignored. Gold Star families were ignored. Historians were ignored.

We alerted our followers that August day, (August 17, 2023) of major issues with the Wall of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. Names of the fallen were omitted, errors in spelling, and ranks remain and no solution to the errors has resulted.

We want to be here to ensure our findings will be included in a "fix".

3.) Post Truce Korea (DMZ Era)

Well over 60% of our correspondents on the website and by email served after July 27, 1953. Everyone is welcome to be part of our extended "family". We have routinely posted information of value for this grouping since our first newsletters. See this link: DMZ Veterans Center 1953 to present

4.) Book Update: Korean War Project Remembrance 1950-1953

All remaining Books Sold on Memorial Day, 2024 - No reprint is anticipated

5.) Donor / Member Update:

Consider supporting the mission of the Korean War Project by donations in the form of Membership/Sponsorship.

Membership: Link to Membership | Donor page

Our Pledge Drive is an ongoing process. We are recruiting from those who have not participated, so if you can, jump on in, it will be appreciated.

The site is free for all to use and those who participate help to ensure that we remain online whether the donation is $15.00 membership or more.

For those persons or groups who cannot participate, we certainly understand. Our overall donor base has declined as former donors pass on or are no longer able to assist.

Donations/Memberships are tax deductible if you use long forms for tax deductions. IRS reports. Our EIN: 75-2695041 501(c) (3)

Everyone may still continue to communicate with us by direct email, phone, or letter.

6.) Subscribe/Unsubscribe

Subscribing and Unsubscribing to our email delivered content has been hit or miss in the past. Everyone that will receive this email has consented in the past to getting copies of our email.

If we have missed any message from you to leave our list or pause delivery, this new delivery system will make sure there is no further contact for group email. Regular email, phone, or letters will always be available.
