quite a bit. We have mailed letters to previous donors and
have 700 more letters to mail for those who assisted in
2002.

How to Join:

==========================================================
3. Tributes from Family and Friends of deceased KVets
==========================================================

The KWP continues to receive notices concerning tributes to
KIA/MIA and for deceased veterans. Visitors should consider
posting to the Remembrance section of the site for the
KIA/MIA. This also fosters networking among famiy and former
unit members.

https://www.koreanwar.org/html/korean_war_databases.html

Donations received for tribute to honor those persons are
always noted in our Membership | Sponsors area when we are
alerted.

At the bottom of each page on the site is a section
bracketed in Red to acknowledge those dedications. This
section rotates among all of those who have donated to the
KWP.

Example:

"This Page Made Possible By
F. William Phillips
Honoring: B Btry 145th Field Artilly Bn, Asst XO 8th Army
Atch X Corps "

Note: many networking contacts have been made via this site
by those tributes. "Thank You" to all who participate.

5. Medical issues for Korean War Vets - links
==========================================================

We want our site visitors to alert us to web sites or email
contact points for issues relating to health issues from the
Korean War and post-truce period (DMZ War).

The KWP gets lots of email about lost medical records, the
St. Louis Fire of 1973. Cold Weather Injury, Hemorrhagic
Fever - Hanta Virus, Chronic Fungal infections, and more are
some of the topics that our vets are interested in.

Please post to our "ADD URL" section for History and
Reference for links and email contacts at:

https://www.koreanwar.org/html/korean_war_project_data.html?data=03

If you are a VSO - Veterans Service Officer and wish to
assist online by all means post that information.

If you are a medical researcher or Veterans Outreach
staffer, jump in and help.

Many VSO's are trying to contact former POW's to obtain
benefits not ever received. Contact your VSO directly for
information.

==========================================================
8. Military Retiree Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP)
==========================================================

Another issue in front of Congress may be of interest to
many of you.

Fred Mason, a member of the Retired Officers Assoc, wrote:

Federal civilian and congressional survivor programs provide
surviving spouses 50% or 55% of retired pay for life. But
military widows see their 55% annuity reduced to 35% of
retired pay when they attain age 62. And those whose spouses
die of service-connected causes see further reductions
in their purchased SBP coverage.

Many older retirees and survivors were not told of these
reductions and are shocked to learn of them later in life.

Defense actuaries confirm that the promised 40% federal
subsidy for the military SBP has now declined to only 25% --
compared to the 42% to 50% subsidy for federal civilian SBP.

Please support fixing these problems by cosponsoring Sen.
Thurmond's (R-SC) S.145 and Sen. Nelson's (D-FL) S.1506 and
working to see that these important bills are enacted

of how six women and ten children survived the trip from
Seoul to Pusan in a weapons carrier It was very exciting and
frightening at times.
