========================================================== 1. Ted's Spam filter, protect your email ==========================================================
Ted has worked out a filter for email clients like Outlook, Eudora, Pegasus, AOL, and most email programs.
WebTV does not have the Tool Bar to allow this, sorry.
I made a filter that works. If you are not able to install it, be sure to have a computer savvy person to work it into your email client.
If you can make an email client MAIL RULE on your system and
also forward to your users, I made one that is working:
On email client, click the Tools section or find the section that has "Mail Rule" . Create a new rule to delete all messages that have the following:
Subject Line, contains: (these characters, all Korean Language)  or à or Á or Ö
You will have to highlight and copy each character, one at
a time, pasting into the rule area. Be sure to have all four characters in the rule section.
I also have a forward email to: Eun-Sun Lee eslee@kisa.or.kr
Save rule and it should take care of 99% of the spam.

We invite you to join up or renew as members, see below.
https://www.koreanwar.org/html/membership.html
For over 7 years the KWP has been providing links for veterans and family members to network or to find information. This service is free for all to use, part of our commitment to our veterans, many of whom are on
fixed income or retired.
These messages may get boring to read month in and out, but they help us to attract those who are new to the site as well as those who may not have participated in the past.
Join in, if you can.

========================================================== 3. Korean Service Awards ==========================================================
The newsletter featured information on two awards in past issues. The US Korean War Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Service Medal are the two and have different time criteria as well as methods to get them.
A) The Republic of Korea Service Medal - June 25th 1950 thru July 27th 1953.
Can be obtained by direct contact with ROK KVA (Korea Veterans Assoc) and contacts in your local Korean community.
It can also be obtained by contacting the USAF at the page link here:
https://www.koreanwar.org/html/korean_war_service_medal.html
B) US Korean War Service Medal - July 25th 2002 thru July 27th 1954.
From many calls and email regarding obtaining lost or never delivered awards and medals, Hal and I have found that direct contact with your elected officials is often the best route.
Providing key documents; discharge papers, (DD 214), action reports, eye-witness accounts, medical records, Form 1300 or Form 293, etc play a significant role in speeding the process.

B) Davison VFW Veteran Awareness Days VFW Post 4087
A short note to say that here in Davison, Michigan we also
have a Veteran's Awareness day. We started two years ago at the VFW Post 4087.
Since that half day gathering we had such a response that we had done 4 more and are doing another one next Thursday. It
was so well received in the high school that it is now part of the curriculum for junior or senior history.
I have some 100 plus pages of letters of thanks from the
students. I personally flew 55 combat missions during 1951, so I have a map of Korea and with the use of a pointer to tell the story of 38 months of combat. The start at the
38th and ending at the 38th. 37,000 plus dead Americans, another 10,000 MIA. It is a first time awareness of Memorial Day for many of the kids.
I hope you find that the vast number of students are truly
interested in talking with Veterans.

========================================================== 5. Books | Film | Web Links ==========================================================
A)"No Gun Ri: A Military History of the Korean War Incident"
by Robert Bateman
It is available in bookstores and may be ordered through Amazon.com. Book price is $22.95 plus S&H.
It refutes the AP articles by Charles Hanley and others about the claims made by Ed Daily regarding the "massacre" at No Gun Ri during the period of 26 to 29 July 1950.
It is extremely well researched, written by an historian in a simple, logical order, and thoroughly dashes the wild claims made by the AP.
Every 7th Cavalry trooper will want to read the book, even
if he were not a member during the early days of the Korean War. It tells the truth about that incident.

For the past several months, commencing in March 2002, a devilish virus/worm of the W32.Klez family have been making the rounds.
The virus/worm is similar to many previous virii, attacking
an email address book to randomly generate email creating bogus FROM senders.
At the KWP, we average getting about 100 virii alerts per day, which our mail server blocks, as do our email clients.
See Norton, McAffee web sites for directions on stopping this virus.
========================================================== 6. Combat Infantry Badge 8240th Army Unit
==========================================================
I am Col. Doug Dillard USA(r) a former memnber of the 8240th Army Unit that conducted behind the lines combat using the
Korean and Chinese Volunteers as partisans and intelligence collection agents during the war.
I have just received a letter from the Military Awards Branch, Dept. of Army that establishes a policy of
reviewing individual applications from veterans who fought in ground combat with the partisans for the award of the COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE.
In the past many veterans were rejected by the awards branch
because the 8240th Army Unit was not considered as engaging in ground combat against ground enemy forces.
This new policy open up the award to many of these veterans
who as a result of subsequent combat duty in Vietnam would be entitled to two perhaps three awards of the CIB for many of them who also served in WWII.
Any 8240th veteran who would like more information on this
should contact:
Col. Doug Dillard at DDILLARDD@AOL.COM
