1. Books in Progress
==============================================

We have continued to receive requests to broadcast notices
about books in the works. Let us know about books or research
and it will go in the newsletter.

From:  Tony Sobieski  ( his first book is in our Bookstore area)

I am currently working on my second Korean War book (my first
is FIRE MISSION! about the 213th FABn) This new project of mine
is about artillery forward observers in the Korean War.

I am attempting to interview at least one FO from every American
artillery unit that served in Korea from 1950 to 1954.

The specific info that I am looking for from these FO's is;
What unit were you with? When were you there? What was the
name of your O.P.? What hills were you on? What infantry units
did you support? Do you recall any specific fire missions?
What was life like as an FO? Any other remembrances of being an FO?

3. Korean War Project Bookstore area
==============================================

Each month we will start featuring sections of the site a few
of you may not know about. This month the Bookstore area is under
the looking glass.

We created this area to feature the self-published books and
booklets of our site visitors. Expansion of this area has
included books now found on mainstream publishers web sites
to include Amazon.com.

If someone purchases a book from Amazon.com from the link on
our site, we receive a small "finders fee" per purchase.

One of our writers, Ted Hofsiss, 5th Cav Rgt, 1st Cav Div.,
expanded his messages to me on my Recollections area into
a full-fledged book, now featured on our Bookstore section.

Pen pals like Frank Kestner (Kulbe's Mongrels), Joe Owen
(Colder Than Hell),  George Matta, (A POW Diary), Mike Hass
(Appollo's Warriors) plus many more are featured on this
area. Come visit!

4. Looking For |  Reunions | Guestbook | Add URL
==============================================

Many of you will now have seen the upgrade on the Looking For
section of the site. That area is still being upgraded to
include links to the Reunions area where anyone may send us
notice of a reunion. The form is easy to work with, try it
for your upcoming reunions, all services, all years.

More is coming for the Looking For area to include the
automation of the POW Camps area and addition of many new
unit pages. We try to keep pace but are usually behind our
own schedules.

The Add Reunion link and Add URL link can be found in the
navigation area and now at the top of each unit page.

Check out this area. Do note, entries do not automatically
appear after a person enters it. Why is that?  Hal and I
screen them and then activate them since we have had many
inappropriate submissions of topics not suited for our site.

For the Guestbook section, Hal and I have copied thousands
of entries to go to the unit page areas on Looking For where
it seemed proper. There are many duplications in this area.

If you have entered the same posting and want to have
something deleted due to duplication, just let Ted Barker know.

Finding The Families: The Search For Korean War Family DNA

In the three years of the Korean War, 8,177 United States
servicemen were designated Missing In Action. At least 860
of these servicemen now rest in the Military Cemetery of the
Pacific at the Punchbowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. Remains of
others rest forever at sea and on land in both North and
South Korea.

The Punchbowl remains are to date unidentified. The only
potential means of identification is through DNA samples
obtained from family members of the lost.

According to the Department of Defense, DNA samples are
needed from family members of over 6,000 of these missing.

As tensions between North and South Korea cool, many of the
MIA's now resting in North Korea and the DMZ are expected to
be repatriated to the United States. It is with great hope
that many of these remains may be identified in the future
through DNA analysis.

In August 2000, the Korean War Project began a program to
identify the specific MIA servicemen and find their families
to obtain DNA samples.

In the weeks ahead we are unveiling a new awareness program
in the attempt to find as many families as possible.
