$1000 to the rehab department at Lyons Veterans Hospital
here in New Jersey and there will be more coming.

We are here to help our fellow veterans.

8 February 2002

Dear Ted,

Would you run the following notice in your newsletter? We
don't want to miss anyone, and are especially anxious to
hear from surviving families of those who have died since
the war.

A monument to Korean War Veterans from Washington County,
Georgia, is under development, to list all veterans who
served in the armed services at least 91 days between 27
June 1950 and 31 January 1955, and who were residents of
Washington County for a total of at least 15 years,
including time before, during or after the war.

For an application form, email request to:
rtsmith@accucomm.net

or write to:
Ron Smith
3912 Harrison Pringle Rd
Wrightsville, GA 31096

So far, we have over 300 names, including all KIA from the
county, but we know there are others.

8. COIN Assist Program-MIA Families attending DPMO meeting
==========================================================

Jan Curran, Board Member of the Korean War Project, writes:

Coin Assist is a program whereby the government pays for two
family members to attend the annual DPMO meeting in DC each
June or July. Vietnam family members have had it in place
for years, so naturally Korean War family members wanted it
as well.

It provides for airfare only, hotel accommodations and meals
are left for the family members to provide.

To get more information on the program, people need to
contact their casualty officer, who should have the details
by now.

10. Ham Radio Operators - Korean War "Net Control"
==========================================================

( Note From Hal Barker, former WA4AQE and WD0HTG)

A great idea from one of our pen pals:

Hi Ted:

Was talking to a Submarine net on ham radio the other day on
14,242 MHz and was thinking about why don't we start one for
5th RCT on a similar frequency where people who were in the
5th, who are hams could sign in and look for others, chat
and like that, maybe on a Sunday morning.

You would need some ads and a person to be a "Net Control"
and maybe for an hour.

You monitor the frequency and put out calls telling who you
are and looking for sign ins. Just a thought!
