2. PBS Television Special - Nov 11th - War Letter's
==========================================================

On Veterans Day, Nov 11th, PBS will be airing a special
documentary centered on War Letters: Extraordinary
Correspondence from American Wars (Scribner)

This is Andrew Carroll's, Legacy Project book that has been
on the New York Times Top Ten list since sales commenced on
May 15th, and featured on our web site and newsletters.

For Details, check your local listings and at the following:

More about the film War Letters (from pbs.org)

Based on newly discovered personal correspondence from the
Revolutionary War to the Gulf War, War Letters brings to
life vivid eyewitness accounts of famous battles, intimate
declarations of love and longing, poignant letters penned
just before the writer was killed, and heartbreaking "Dear
John" letters from home.

The best of these letters transcend the subject of war; they
are about love, perseverance, honor, passion, and faith.

Most are unpublished, many rescued from oblivion in attics
and basements. Read by a cast of celebrity actors, they are
illustrated with a blend of dramatic archival footage and
photographs, evocative recreations, and images of those
who wrote, and those who read, letters from American
battlefronts.

Andy's book can be found at any major bookseller, Walmart,
and online at Border's and Amazon web sites.

3. Legacy Project - Needs Enduring Freedom Letters to Home
==========================================================

A new project is underway for Andrew Carroll's Legacy Project,
collecting letters from active duty and reservist
personnel involved with Operation Enduring Freedom.

This work should be reminiscent of previous books produced
by Andy Carroll, among them, "War Letters:" the current
best seller.

Andy asks that service men and women, their families and
friends consider sharing their personal correspondence with
the Legacy Project for possible inclusion in the next book.

4. Korean War Grave Site Maps - Heads Up!
==========================================================

Editors Note: The Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Persons
Office is interested if you know anything about the maps and this
trip described below

John Hall, a site visitor, makes note that during his tour
with KCOMZ Engineering HQ, Topography in 1954:

In 1954 i was in charge of all topography for engineering
hq., kcomz (korean communication zone). I was ordered to
work with graves registration to plot the locations of at
least 150 to 200 (or maybe more) burial sites.

We used battlefield maps, hand drawn maps, among others which
I can't remember. There must have been 60 to 75 different
maps to complete the project. We then worked with the nnit
(neutral nations inspection team) to enter north korea on a
search and recovery effort. We went to Panmunjom in
an effort to convince the north koreans to allow the
mission.

After about two weeks delay, they allowed us to proceed.

there were four of us plus four nnits and two truck loads of
north korean troops. We were only there two weeks when the
north koreans made us stop the mission and return south.

There were nine bodies found, which were taken south with us.
I never heard anything more about the mission, but I'll bet
those maps still exist ,,,,somewhere!!!

P.S. After the mission was terminated, we all parted our ways and I returned to
my outfit. Graves registration kept all the maps, but my memory dosen't
recollect what outfit the graves registration came from. I believe the
Captain in charge was wearing an Eighth Army patch? I also don't recall any
names, but we called one of the NNIT's "Igor" because to us he looked Rusky.
