1. Editor's note Korea and the DMZ
==========================================================

South and North Korea are prominently back in the news
after the State of the Union speech by Pres. Bush.

More than ever, people should recognize the importance of
the fighting that took place from June 25th 1950 through
July 27th, 1953. This was the first time that the United
Nations stepped up and authorized intervention against
Communist aggression.

United States forces have never left the South Korean
Peninsula and there are 37,000 plus US Forces on duty,
alongside the ROK forces.

In the face of the current worldwide terror situation, let
us not forget that UN, NATO and other forces still face
great danger. These are our son's and daughters and loved
one's.

We all pray for peace and for the safety of young men and
women who are active duty military. Let's not forget those
who stand and serve!

In Progress: Tootsie Roll Stories wanted!!

Remember, Linda Granfield's children's book?

From Linda:

Hello,
I thank you again for printing my request for Korean War
recollections (for a children's book) in your August 2000
newsletter. I had a number of  wonderful 'articles' sent to
me by your members/veterans.

I'm wondering if I could ask another favor? I understand
there are veterans (perhaps your members) with stories about
Tootsie Rolls and the Korean War? Do you have any leads? Or
could you advise me re: these stories?
