1. This Mailing List (going to 35,500 + persons) =========================================================
We began this newsletter mailing in December of 1998.
This list is a private list for our visitors and members. A person may join or leave the list at will. It is compiled from our Guest book and is for public service messages of general interest to veterans and families.
To join or leave the list: email Ted Barker tbarker@kwp.org
with Subscribe or Unsubscribe in the subject line.
The semi-automated join or leave tool will soon be back online so folks may join or leave at anytime they choose without deleting their entry for the list.
Consider forwarding the Newsletter to your friends. Word of mouth is how we have grown over the years.
Thanks for being part of the Korean War Project family.
========================================================= 2. KWP website upgrades status =========================================================
Our October newsletter notified our users that immediately
the move to upgrade the equipment to run the site would commence.
Most of you have seen the construction dust created. It shall continue for a bit longer as more of the hardware and software is configured.
Expect some more inability to reach the site as we find and repair the broken parts that the upgrade has caused.
We rebuilt two 5 year old computers to act as servers and only
one is operative at this juncture. Hopes are that the lingering issues with new Microsoft Operating System software will be resolved shortly.
=========================================================
3. Email contact | Phone | Address information =========================================================
We continue to urge folks to update us with their contact
information. For email updates just contact Ted by email. You may choose to post a new Looking For or Guestbook message with contact information as well.
See this link and do pass it along to others who may have
mentioned that no messages have been inbound from Ted or Hal via the site or newsletter.
Spam filters, full mailboxes or incomplete typing of email addresses are the most frequent reasons for non-delivery.
See this link for more on that subject: https://www.koreanwar.org/html/email_information.html
========================================================= 4. Funding for the Korean War Project is an urgent issue! =========================================================
Once again our Pledge Drive is in action. Donor fatigue for nonprofits is becoming a huge issue after the tsumami and the summer of hurricanes or floods.
The Korean War Project is no exception and also suffers from attrition by member/donors who have passed away. Many of our former donors no longer can assist due to retirement and/or health related issues.
The notice posted on the site and often iterated in the newsletters and by surface mail is our only way to keep this small nonprofit in existence.
Our plea is directed to lapsed donors and especially to
those of you who have never participated. "We NEED all of you!" Simply put, if you find the website beneficial, help out.
Many of our pals notice the 35,000 figure for the newsletter
distribution and have said to me,"if each user would donate $1.00 each.." Well, you get the drift.
"We fly by the seat of the pants" is our motto. It has been
thus since start up back in 1995. Our financials are posted by the IRS at www.guidestar.com and anyone may examine them online.
Thanks for listening.

========================================================= 5. Who can join or donate? =========================================================
This question is posed just about every day. The quick answer
is: anyone who finds value in our work. Membership is actually an honorary title that was requested by many donors dating to 1999.
We use the term as a way to thank all those who have donated or
sponsored the site.
Some site visitors like to sponsor unit pages or as living tributes to those who have passed away. Some donors direct tributes to special family members. We do encourage this practice.
The KWP stopped accepting advertisements years ago as only three companies or organizations took part in that campaign.
========================================================= 6. Newsletter topics
=========================================================
Bookstore | Veteran Benefits | Looking For | Reunions
Submissions by our web visitors are the core for 90% of our
newsletters. We would love to see more from Navy, UN Allies, families, Coast Guard, etc.
Each topic can be related to a section on the site navigation bars. All the older versions of our newsletters may be found
at this link: https://www.koreanwar.org/html/newsletter_archive.html
========================================================= 8. Our long term goals, still the same. =========================================================
See this link: https://www.koreanwar.orgnonprofit1.htm
We created these goals back in 1996 when asked what the KWP was all about. Most of them have not been achieved and we both wish it was otherwise. With that said, it is satisfying
to know that the glimmer of an idea hatched back in 1993 has come this far.
Thanks once again to each and every person who participates. The sharing of information represented here is your doing.
