1. Letters Found - Louisville, KY - Success!
==========================================================

Last month, we send out a flash! about a box of letters
found in Louisville, KY by Ann Kellogg. The letters belonged
to Ken Potter, Sgt USMC.

Martha Boltz, who had written about the poor upkeep of the
National Korean War Veterans Memorial, spotted the
Louisville address and called her daughter, Abby Miller.

Abby is a reporter for WLKY Ch 32. She convinced the editor
to run the story. Well, in about 15 minutes after the airing
Ch 32 viewers had found the family of Sgt Potter. Several
days later, on camera, the reunion of the letters and the
family took place.

Thanks Martha, Abby and WLKY, Louisville, KY.

Aug 11 is Anniversary of Bunker Hill Battle
11 Aug 1952 - 10 Sep 1952

Ted:
Just thought I'd mention this 50th Anniversary. If your
library has bound volumes of Time Magazine, their 15 August
1952 issue has an article on it, and the 1Sep52 issue has a
picture of Our Company resting after the fight.

Item Company, 3rd Bn.First Marines, that is.

4. July 27th ceremonies
==========================================================

After our June 25th and July 27th newsletters, Hal and I
got a huge influx of mail about ceremonies all around the
world.

-----------------Washington, DC------------------------
The Washington, DC Korean War Veterans Memorial ceremony was
well attended by veterans and US Administration personnel,
honoring our veterans and families.

Martha and others reported in the range of 3000 attendee's
in a cloudy morning ceremony, spared the usual heat of DC.

Of note, Ray Fore said he saw a 1/24th scale model of the
Memorial, all of us would love to know who owns it.

(Sidebar: there is still more to accomplish at the US Natl
Korean War Veterans Memorial, for upkeep. We shall mention
that next news.--- Hal and Ted)

Thank you for a informative news letter re the above.
Here in Western Australia we held a Commemorative
Service on the 26th July in order to remember same.
One early count, noted 97 + in attendance on a wet,
windy morning.

The service incorporated the local Primary School Choir,
local elected dignitaries, veterans from other theatres of
operations and lead in prayer by a Korean Minister of The
Uniting Church here in Western Australia.

Over all a very moving ceremony.

Planning is already under way for the 50th Anniversary next
year, which also is the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of
this State Association.

It will be noted that we held the Commemorative Service on
the 26th rather than 27th July but this was due to
logistical problems associated with venue access etc.

Keep up the good work,
Best regards,
Garry Burgoyne

Subject: THE KOREAN WAR - NOT FORGOTTEN

FROM A KOREAN WAR VETERAN

Today I layed a wreath at our local Korean War Monument here
in Chicago, along with other members of the Chicago Chapter
KWVA. It read "IN HONOR OF FALLEN COMRADES,
25 June 1950 to 27 July 1953". 49 years ago today I found
myself north of Kumhwa preparing for a cease fire at 2200
hrs with the suspicion that it won't last! Each year
I pray for Peace in that valley.

THANK GOD FOR PRAYERS ANSWERED.

WELL DONE COMRADES,

More input on Memorial Highways, keep the info coming!

With reference to the "Korean War Veterans Memorial
Highway", Interstate 295 (a Richmond VA) bypass has been so
designated in Hanover County VA. Korean War Veterans, VFW
Post 9808 members and interested County Officials were
instrumental in getting this stretch of Highway so named.
We are proud of it.

Sincerely, Alfredo Salazar

8. Korean American Cultural Foundation
==========================================================

Summer Event 2002-Korea Comes To You!

excerpt from email .... I also add that all the real thanks
should go to the Korean American Cultural foundation and its
Chairman and Directors Mr. Lee, Young Jack, Ph.D., Chairman,
and Mr. Cho, Sungkyu, Ph.D., Executive Director.

These great gentleman, in their mid 70's, flew all the way
from Seoul Korea with a group of over 60 College students to
perform for the American Korean Veterans and in doing so,
they managed to carry with them box loads of these Beautiful
Medallions (every bit as beautiful as the Olympic Gold).

They began their travel on July 9 at San Francisco and
performed every day at Monterey, Redwood City, Menlo Park &
Livermore, VA Facilities then to Emerald Park Dublin High
School, on to Santa Rosa, Roseville, Sacramento, Fresno, Los
Alamitos, Los Angeles Trade Tech College, Los Alamitos
Training Base, East Los Angeles College, Camp Pendleton, San
Diego, and Chula Vista, VA Hospital.

This wonderful group of Koreans managed to present a
Medallion to every Korean Veteran who attended these events.

That should tell you how many of these medallions they
carried with them. They arrived back in Seoul at 3:30 AM on
the morning of July 24. The main purpose of this tour was
to personally thank and acknowledge all the American
Veterans who helped free their country.

My hat goes off to all this troupe of students and the
Doctors as well as Kim, Joa Soo, Brigadier General So Korean
Army (Retired) who devoted relentless hours to paying
thanks.

I'm sure they would love to hear from anyone. Send email to
Sungkyu Cho, Ph.D.
lykeion@hotmail.com

As mention by the Walton family, these medallions are
beautiful.

Respectfully. Rick Richard, USS Pirate (AM-275)

US Marines; "IN THE SHADOW OF GLORY" by R. B. Campbell

Hi... my name is Bob Campbell and I am a Marine veteran of
the Korean War. I have written a novel about the outpost
battles of the last half of that war based on my tour of
duty. It has been well received by Korea veterans as well
as those who just enjoy a good read. Please give my bookpage
a look. Thanks for your consideration.

IN THE SHADOW OF GLORY by R. B. Campbell, is a gripping
story about the coming of age of an 18 year old Marine
fighting in Korea during the last half of that bloody
war--The Outpost Battles. There is no Hollywood hokum in
this book. It is a riveting, eye-opening account of the
Forgotten War from the grunts perspective-- how they lived,
how they talked and how they died.

Much of the book is based on the authors experiences during
the Korean War. Campbell, a former Marine Sgt. has drawn on
his experience as a Marine infantryman to craft a masterful
depiction of men at war.

IN THE SHADOW OF GLORY can be ordered at Barnes and Noble,
Amazon.com or at PublishAmerica.com

Feedback from author: "The Dandelion Ranch" by Kyung Ae Jeon

Dear Mr. Ted Barker,

Thank you very much for featuring my novel "The Dandelion
Ranch". I've been reading the newsletters you've sent for years without contacting you at all.

Now, the newsletter became part of my life!

I've been busy alone for years writing, publishing (in Korea), revising, and publishing again(in U.S,) "The  Dandelion Ranch."

In 1997, I happend to find some old documents on the Korean
War in a pioneer museum in Bozeman Montana. And I thought
it is my duty as a Korean writer to create a novel based on
these documents.

The heros of my novel are MIAs and KIAs of the Korean War.

I dedicate my novel to those young men who sacrificed their
lives during the Korean War- So, they are the owners of my
novel.

Thank you again for featuring 'The Dandelion Ranch'.

Sincerely,

Kyung Ae Jeon, Author

My husband, Marion J. (JUD) Morgan has recently had a

32 months. The title is "Telling The Folks Back Home".

The book is just what it's title implies - one man's experiences in Camps 5 and 3. He was in C Company, 19th Infantry, 24th Division. Also a little about
his return home to Arkansas.

We are selling the book for $15.00 , shipping and handling
