From Martin Hinton, Producer:
WAR STORIES WITH OLIVER NORTH
Nearly 2
million Americans served in Korea and over 35,000 of them died there fighting at places like "Bloody Ridge," "Pork Chop Hill" and "Heartbreak Ridge"...
These were the treacherous "hill battles" known for some of
the most brutal combat in military history. Here from the men who were there, Sunday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET and Monday, January 6 at 1 a.m.

2. NPR (National Public Radio) Visits Texas, Seeks Interviews ==========================================================
Alert to Korean War Veterans in Texas and especially North Texas!!
David Cline <dcline@email.smith.edu> writes:
My name is David Cline and I'm working with the National Public Radio project on the Korean War: "Remembering Korea."
I know you've heard from us in the past and ran a brief about our project
in your May newsletter.
I'm planning a trip to Texas this January to conduct some interviews for the documentary and I was hoping, seeing as your Texas-based, you might be able to suggest some people to contact.
I'm working on two parts of the documentary -- one on the integration of the armed forces and the other is a more general history of the war as experienced by US combat soldiers.
David is especially seeking
interviews with African-American vets, and former POW's from the Korean War.
He will be in North Texas on the 9th and taking trips to San Antonio as well as Houston.
If you are interested in being interviewed, email immediately to:

4. Natl. Personnel Records Center (NPRC), St. Louis ==========================================================
NPRC is a Division of the National Archives (NARA) and the main records section is located there.
Information on the notorious 1973 fire, how to obtain records, etc can be researched at this web location:

This site includes downloads of forms and very useful information about military records.

5. POW/MIA Family Networking ==========================================================
The KWP gets many inquiries about men who are MIA or declared MIA in the Korean War.

Often networking among families turns up valuable documents. Here is an example of our email. It is from John Zimmerlee, a long-time correspondent:
From John Zimmerlee
Looking For Van Fleet Family contact Dec 29, 2002
Any thoughts on posting email addresses of those families wishing to correspond with other families about similar losses?
My particular case needs such help. I've been looking for the family of James Van Fleet.
His file contains a pertinent document concerning my father and crew. Perhaps his family will send me a copy. DPMO and Casualty deny
that the document exists, but Van Fleets' file summarizes that document in enlightening details.

6. Correction on 6th Tank Bn, last newsletter item #3 ==========================================================
The December 24th Newsletter featured a request by Dave Teich. who was with C Company (not D Company) of the
6th Tank Bn, US Army attached to the 24th Inf Div.
(# 3. 6th Tank Bn Book in Progress)
Excerpt from Dave;
.... modify my request to include that the 6th Tank Bn. is a US Army Tank unit attached to the 24th
Infantry Division. We have created some confusion since I have now learned that the US Marines in Korea also had a 6th Tank Bn.
Please show the difference.
Thanks,
Dave Teich
