Comments: My grandpa is Tony Powers Jr from Kentucky. He served during the entirety of the Korean War to my knowlege and through research. He was in his early 20s during this time. I don't know more about him or where he was stationed nor his duty during the war. I believe he was a Sargent(E-5) at some point during his enlistment. I know when he left, he ended up meeting my grandmother at the VA hospital in Cincinnati, OH but later returned back to Kentucky. He has since passed (2002) but we still want to know more about him.

If anyone has any information about him or even stories, I'd love hear them and pass them on to my father, his son.

Comments: Hello everyone,

I'm looking for documentation of my grandfather in the Korean War. From what I've heard from family:
- He was in the combat infantry service in the Battle of Porkchop Hill and was drafted around 1953.
- He was a light artillery specialist in the infantry and in charge of counting casualties, likely in the mortar division.
- To my knowledge, he did not suffer any injuries, and did not pass away during the war.

Please reach out to me if you know how I could narrow down any division/more information. I also have photos. Thank you so much!

Kemme and I know that her served in an armored unit on a tank crew in the Korean War
between 1950 and 1952. I recently ordered any records of his service from the National
Archives and the result was small to say the least due to the loss of records from the
fire in the 70s. The only thing that they had was a record of his discharge at Fort
Hood in 1952. I would love to know just a little bit more about his service and since
he passed away a few years ago I am afraid that I may have lost that chance. I am not
sure if anyone on here can help or if I even have the correct Battalion but any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I HAVE FILED A DISABILITY CLAIM THAT IS NOW 210 DAYS WITHOUT A RESPONSE FROM THE VA FOR MY TIME SERVED NEAR THE DMZ IN SOUTH KOREA BETWEEN 1969 - 1971, WHICH IS NOW COVERED BY THE PACT ACT FOR EXPOSURE TO AGENT ORANGE AND THE TYPE OF CANCER I NOW HAVE.

I WAS SENT THERE TO REPLACE A CIVILIAN POSITION OF I CORPS ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR - WHOSE JOB WAS TO PROVIDE ENTERTAINMENT WITH EITHER IN SERVICE PERSONNEL OR USO PERFORMERS WHEN AVAILABLE TO THE UNITS IN THE I CORPS AREA, FROM CAMP RED CLOUD TO THE DMZ. BECAUSE OF TROOP WITHDRAWAL TAKING PLACE, THE ARMY CHOSE NOT TO CONTRACT WITH ANOTHER CIVILIAN TO FILL THE POSITION OF ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR, AND WITH A MUSIC BACKGROUND, I WAS ASKED WHILE STATIONED IN SPECIAL SERVICES AT FORT LEWIS, WA, IF I WOULD LIKE TO BE THE ACTING ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR FOR I CORPS IN SOUTH KOREA, WHICH I ACCEPTED AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SENT TO SHORTLY AFTER ACCEPTANCE. I PERFORMED MY DUTIES AS ACTING ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR WHICH INVOLVED STAGING PERFORMANCES IN NUMEROUS SITES AND CAMPS THROUGHOUT NORTHERN SOUTH KOREA, MANY OF THEM IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE DMZ. THIS PROXIMITY SHOULD QUALIFY ME UNDER THE PACT ACT FOR THE STAGE IIIC PROSTATE CANCER I NOW HAVE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER PROOF OF MY DUTIES, I.E., PHOTOS THAT WERE LOST DURING A MOVE, OR KNOWLEDGE OR REMEMBRANCE OF OTHER PERSONNEL THAT I INTERACTED WITH DURING THAT TIME OF MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO. I'M AT LOSS AS TO HOW TO PROVE TO THE ARMY (IT SEEMS THEY CAN'T FIND RECORDS OF MY ASSIGNMENT TO THE POSITION) THAT I STAGED ON AVERAGE 20 PERFORMANCES A MONTH FOR APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS, WITH MANY OF THESE PERFORMANCE AT SITES WITHIN VISUAL DISTANCE OF THE DMZ, WHERE THOUSANDS OF TONS OF AGENT ORANGE WAS SPRAYED AROUND SPECIFIC CAMPS, SITES, ROADS AND LANDING AREAS. IT'S BASICALLY MY WORD AGAINST THEIR LACK OF RECORD KEEPING, AND I'M LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION THAT WOULD SHOW THAT USO OR MILITARY ENTERTAINMENT WAS OCCURRING DURING THAT TIME PERIOD IN BASES NEAR THE DMZ IN SOUTH KOREA. ANY PHOTOS OF ENTERTAINMENT AT SITES OR CAMPS NEAR THE DMZ WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL, OR IF ANY SERVICE MEMBERS BEING STATIONED AT SITES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE DMZ (INCLUDING HAWK MISSLE SITES WHERE WE LANDED PERFORMERS NUMEROUS TIMES) REMEMBER BEING ENTERTAINED AT THOSE SITES WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS POSSIBLE SUPPORTING EVIDENCE.

Comments: Looking for information or copies of my father’s DD 214 from the regular army, 1953
to 1956 number 18-403-694. Records were destroyed in the St. Louis fire, We were
told. All we have is the certificate of service.

We have photographs and evidence that back up his receiving A Purple Heart in Korea
with his unit.

We have his ribbon, but all his medals in the Army and Air Force, when he retired
were stolen. Now that he has passed away, we want to recognize he received that
purple heart, but they need documentation to put it on his headstone.

We would like to honor him with that, and we cannot find medical records of him being
in a MASH unit When his Jeep was blown up in Korea, and he received a plate in his
head.

I don’t know if he ended up in reserves after 1956, but my certificate of service
that we received did not show any foreign service or injuries which were incorrect.
We would like help recognizing all of my dad‘s sacrifices And hopefully get his
Purple Heart medal back and have him recognized on his tombstone with some sort of
documentation if anybody can help.

My dad Jim Moses was stationed at Thule from 10/29/54 to 8/3/56 when his National Guard Unit was called into active duty. The National Archives cannot find his records (likely due to a massive fire at their St. Louis storage facility in the 70s). The VA Hospital has his active duty dates I included above but not the DD214 to back it up. Online resources at the Pentagon suggest going to the base records where he served. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I am desperate to get him into a VA skilled nursing center.

Comments: My father's Separation Qualification Record states he was an Information and Education Specialist (Tec 5) and served with the 76th Signal Service Battalion. I cannot find information on this battalion and its units etc. I am putting together a service display for him but have little information on badges and other insignia uniform items. Looking for as much detail as you can provide.
