Comments: My papaw served in Korean war as supply sergeant. Two terms. He was in South Korea. Never spoke about much to anyone but his older brother (who has some info but not alot). Something happened to cause my papaw to leave (can give more info in personal communication) and I would like to know of anyone he may have served with. I am currently waiting on photocopies of his records to be mailed to me from national archives but his files were those burned in the "fire" so they are only reconstructed.
Papaw was from NC and, life after war, was hard for him according to my mother. I know talking about war experiences is not something most do so I understand why he didn't speak about it and why he coped ineffectively. He passed away in 2001 when I was young yet old enough to know he was gone and I would never get to experience life with him. He and I always had this strange connection which carries in to today. I want to know more about his time in Korea and it is not an easy feat.
If anyone recognizes his name, please reach out to me.

He was of Mexican descent, but was possibly born in Kansas where he lived most of his life and died there (Wyandotte County). He "disappeared" (I don't know the circumstances) after that for over a decade before turning up again in Kansas. This is what I know, his name is Hubert Leon Hester and he signed up from Greenville, SC when he was 16 or 17 years old. His Mom had to sign for him and she did due to the fact she had TB at the time. Hubert went to San Antonio,Tx. for basic training (I believe Ft. Sam Houston). He was working in the hospital when we was (sent or volunteered) to go to Korea. During his time in Korea his mother was dying and was sent home to see her before she died.
When Hubert was discharged he went to Abbeville, SC and completed his GED.

I recall him telling me that he was stationed in Tokyo and the DD214 says something about Photo Interp under major courses taken. I think the Most Significant duty assignment says Security Op (or Gp) 8110th AU. I can't really tell if that is before the 110th, but it does appear to maybe be an 8. After that I have been told he went on to Italy, possibly Germany and Fort Bliss, I am missing some places for sure. He might have been discharged in the early 60s'. The only photo we have is assuming his formal graduation picture, and the insignia on his sleeve does not match the time frame when looking it up. He has a red patch, with a mosque in blue with a letter in white. The remaining parts of the patch are missing. Internet search suggest it is for the A5 army North, but the timing does not line up with his age, plus it mentions World War 2.

Comments: I am looking for information about my grandfather Alvin Knue. He was from the Lumberton/Purvis area in Mississippi an served in the military during the Korean War. I know nothing about his service but I have one of his dog tags. It reads:
KNUE ALVIN HENRY
RA14490315
T53 A
P
I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me what any of this means and how to find out more about my grandpa's service.
