Comments: Soldier's surname was Garcia (Mexican-American), landed with Gen. Douglas MacArthur's forces in Lingayen Gulf, Philippines on January 1945. Met him when I was 10 y.o. (am 73 now) when his battalion was marching along the high-way west of the town of Urdaneta, Pangasinan, and they were heading towards Clark Field, an American air base captured by the Japanese in 1942. The Americans were amazed that a kid could speak English and Spanish in the boondocks of the Philippines. Garcia must have been 19-20 y.o. then. I hope he is alive, in good health, and would communicate with me. I still live in the Philippines. Thank you.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone that knew my father in Korea. He died in 1981 when I was just a young man and before I could have an adult relationship with him. He always told us kids the scar on his stomach was from having his appendix removed. I found out just last year, from his brother, my Dad was wounded in Korea. My uncle had very little details, only that he was shot with a "burp" gun. It all became very clear why my father felt so strongly about our freedom and the American way of life. Apparently all of his military records burned. He was stationed in Japan before the war and would have been one of the first to go to Korea. I would like to learn his story. If you knew my Dad, Dale Hardwick, please let me know.
Thank you for serving. We are all very proud of those of you that gave to us our freedom.

I've obtained his records and can't really understand the language. The record shows that on 23 July, 1950 his unit was shipped from Ft. Knox to Korea where he was present for 5 campaigns. The unit is listed in his record as "30thOrdHvyMaintCo AFFE." Beyond that I know very little except that he was injured in 1952 and returned to the US, stationed first at Camp Cook, Cal., and then Ft. Lewis, Washington. Comments: Looking for anyone who knows the actual unit my recently deceased grandfather belonged to. His name was Wallace W. Cogean. He was a Staff Sargeant from R.I. I have a lot of written journal information from his time in Korea with a lot of stories. He started his journey to Japan from San Francisco and during the voyage there were 2 times at sea the boat lost power. They camped at Mount Fugi and landed in Korea by nightfall. I know at some point he trained Korean soliders as well. He even has names written in his journal. They constantly moved around while in Korea with him referring to them as the "yo-yo" army. He told stories of rolling out wire and the N.Koreans would cut the line and roll it up to steal it. Also he told stories of raising the radio/radar or something off the ground into the trees. He was in Korea until Spring of 51. In the journal it mentions the 3rd Batallion 17th infantry 7th division 8th Army. His service records i believe were destroyed in a fire and therefore i cannot look them up. I do have his serial number. After he returned home I see a 7th infantry patch on his right shoulder in a photo its the red/back hourglass patch. I don't know how long after he was home that the picture was taken. any information would help. Thanks
