Comments: Trying to help Don locate records and such. He was 2 blocks away when General Frisk Deen was captured during the fall of Taejon. Don was injured in a truck accident there also, however there are supposedly no records to prove this, something about a fire. This occured between 1949 and 1951. He doesn't talk about the war much at all. Don was very young then, in his teens I think. He is needing documentations for Medical reasons, and still trying to receive some of his metals. IT'S A SHAME THAT OUR COUNTRY CAN SEND YOUNG MEN INTO WAR TO FIGHT OR GET KILLED FIGHTING, BUT THEY WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE BRAVERY AND COURAGE OF THESE MEN, WHO IN SOME CASES, WERE MERE BOYS AT THE TIME.
If anyone remembers Don ( or David ) Legg, Please email him at the above address.
Thanking You In Advance,
Mike Bishop

He served with "K" Company, 21st Infantry; was awarded the DSC for his actions at Pohang-Dong on 2 September 1950, was shot in the face but returned to duty. He went MIA on 2 November 1950. I'm friendly with his older brother and trying to assist in finding out what happened on the day Primo disappeared...the circumstances and where the action took place. Any info would be appreciated. I served with a volunteer recon company inside the Korean DMZ in 1959-60, later earned my CIB with the recon element of an infantry brigade in Vietnam. Comments: My pop passed away in October 2000, and I am just now finding out about some of his old units.
He originally enlisted 1939-1940? and retired in 1968. Was sent to Korea in July 1950 as a SFC having already seen combat in WWII in North Africa, Sicily, and through France and Germany after landing at Utah Beach.
I just recently saw his Bronze Star citation for Meritorious Service listing his unit as "B" Company 21st Inf reg. 24th Infantry for the periods July 2 through Nov. 2 1950. Looking further into his old orders I show him getting a field commission in August 1950 to 2nd Lt.
I know he was there longer as he was wounded on 5/4/1951 and after recuperating was sent back stateside shortly thereafter.
He never spoke much about Korea which from what I can see of the horrible circumstances are understandable.
He then transferred to Indiantown Gap Military Reservation PA.
He retained his rank of 1st Lt. until 1956 when he reverted to SFC for the duration of his career.
I know this is probably a stretch, but does anybody remember him?

Comments: My father was Lt. Col Carl C (Cliff) Jensen. He was the battalion commander of the Third Battalion and among the first of those who were sent to Korean from Japan a few days after the invasion by the North Koreans.
My family was in Japan at the time and went with him to the train station to leave for Korea. We never saw him again as he died a few days later in that first battle of the war. Although he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Service Cross, he and members of the Third Battalion were more or less forgotten and that historic time period appears only in one or two written discussions of the Korean War.
I wonder if any of the people who served with him or any of the family members are "out there" somewhere.

I say thanks too for the fine article on 3rd battalion maneuvers at Oyanohara.Again I was a member of Lt.King 3rd platoon.Lt.Bentz was outstanding Co. One year later i was wounded on the same date 10/19/50 in North Korea. These two storys is the only ones i have ever read in either the 24th Division. or the 21st Regt. Magazine or news letter I believe no more than 200 members survived Chochiwon. 98 percent of the officers were killed. No one to keep our history up.
Even Korean battefield tours never tour this massacre site. I think this is terrible think with 700 casualties. All you read about is T.F Smith is a Suwon or 34th at Taejon. The 3rd battalion was the first to attack the enemy, first in 21st Regt to cross the 38th parallel and the first unit of 8th army to be nearst to the Yalu River when the Chinese hit them. I hope someone has a answer.

Comments: It is with great sadness that I report the death of my dad, William F. Staab. His recovery from a stroke in 2000 was progressing well until he fell and broke his hip while exercising. The surgery to repair the hip was successful, however he suffered a massive heart attack on March 14 and died March 16.
The memorial service on March 21 was attended by (Gen.) Brad Smith, a personal and professional friend of my folks for well over fifty years.
My dad was always proud of his army career, but never sought to glorify the tough business of fighting for your country. He was a true professional. One of the greatest testimonials I read amoung the sympathy cards we recieved was one from his supply sergeant in his first command (Co E, 17th IR, 7 Div) on Attu during WWII. The affection and admiration all these years later came through so strongly that all of the family was touched.
RIP, Dad...

Haven't heard anything re my Dad from any of you out there. He continues to recover slowly from his stroke in Feb 2000. Can't get him to get on the net...his hands shake too much to type any more. I can certainly pass on comments, etc.
Thanks...
