Keywords: I joined up with Company K, 21st Infantry Regt at Camp Younghans, Japan in or around November 1952. I went to Korea with them and after a stay on the main land, went to Koje Do island where the Red POW camps were located, I was there when the truce was signed and I was informed that my Brother had been repriated, (He was with the First Calvary Divison-Captured on or around 2 Novewmber 1950. After I went to Inchon to see him, I was allowed to spend four hours with him. He was aboard ship and the ship was in the harbor waiting to sail. My brother passed away in July 1995 from cancer. In later years I went to Viet Nam (1969-1970), this time I was with the First Calvary Division, In my 24 years of military service I was proud to serve my country in two of its finest combat Divisions.

Comments: My father rarely spoke about the Korean War. He was part of Fort Task Smith. He earned a purple heart from the Korean War. My father passed away eight years ago. All his information and purple heart was lost in a house fire that destroyed any information we had about my fathers military career. I don't know what unit he was in since all information was lost. I would like to get any information from anyone who might have known my father.

Sincerly,

Irene Stewart (Rhodes)

Comments: PVT Walter L. Mowrer was apparently KIA in North Korea on 20 OCT 1950. He is reportedly buried in Congress Cemetary in Wayne County, Ohio, which is where he was from. A family member of mine, I am looking for any information at all about him in order to help honor him and also to regain some lost information about our family. This event was apparently so devastating to some of the family members that they rarely mentioned it, and now I would like to pass on this important piece of history to my children. Walter deserves to be remembered.

I'd be interested in anything - at this time, I do not even know what battalion or other unit he was assigned to.

Thanks much.

Comments: A KOREAN CHRISTMAS
T'was the night before Christmas, and all thru the tent, was the odor of fuel oil (the stovepipe was bent)
The shoe paks were hung by the oil stove with care,
In the hope that they'd issue each man a new pair.
The weary GI's were sacked-out in their beds and visions of sugar-babes danced through their heads.
When up on the ridge-line there rose such a clatter,((a chinese machine gun had started to chatter)
I rushed to my rifle and threw back the bolt, the rest of my tent-mates awoke with a jolt. Outside we could
hear our Platoon Sgt Kelly, a hard little man with a little pot belly. "Come Baker, Come Zimm, come Conners
and Watson. Up Miller, Up Carson, Up Williams and Dodson. We stumbled outside in a swirl of confusion, So
cold that each man could have used a transfusion.
"Get up on that hill-top and silence that Red. And don't come back 'til your sure that he's dead" !! Then, putting his thumb up in front of his nose, Sgt Kelly took leave of us shivering Joes. But we all heard him say in a voice soft and light. Merry Christmas to all, May you live thru the night !!!

I knew a lady, Ms. Gladys Searcy of Newton, Alabama who told me a heart wrenching story of how she raised this boy only to lose him in the Korean War. His father, also named Winifred, died in Germany in 1986. According to Ms. Searcy the Senior Winifred was in the Army and the younger boy left to fend for himself when he showed up on Ms. Searcy's doorstep. I would just kind of like to know the rest of the story so to speak. Apparently Winifred was a Medic in the 21st Infantry or at least he had a Medical MOS.

Comments: Ray was my dads best friend in high school and they were drafted together and served in Korea.
My dad, Tom Donohue was with the Combat Engineers while Ray was with 21INF RGT 24INF DIV when he was killed. I'm looking for anyone who knew my dad or Ray or has any information on events around 31-DEC-51. Thanks for any help.
