Comments: Looking for information on combat operations involving Company G 223rd Regiment during May 1953. I recently received documents about my uncle PFC John (Jack) Ryan's service in Co G and found a document certifying that he was in a combat zone between 1 May and 7 May 1953. My uncle passed in 1956 from the invisible wound and I never knew him. He earned 2 bronze stars but my family has no information what he did to earn them. The fire in Kansas City destroyed his records. Any information on him or what Co G was doing in 1953 is appreciated.

Comments: I would like to find SFC Billy Tingle or CPL Frank Carter, or descendents or family members of either. My father was a photographer for the 223rd Infantry Regiment stationed in Korea in 1953/54. I found a very nice 8 x 10 B&W photograph of these two servicemen with a young Korean child during a distribution of donated clothing to Korean civilians after the war had ended. I'm sure the identified individuals or their families would like to have it or a copy of the original. If they contact me, I would gladly send it to them.

Comments: Comments: Looking for information on my father, Jack Phillip Carter. We were always very proud of our father's service and ran the courses with him and enjoyed the base life, but when he retired it was no longer the focus of our lives. We kids were not aware of the many medals he had received when we were younger- he always had a chest full of ribbons etc- it seemed par for the course. As we have gone through pictures preparing for the funeral display, we learned he had :
Army Of Occupation Medal and Japan Clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star (looks like a date of 2-19-52), Purple Heart , the United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge First Awards
We were totally unaware of those and immediately called the Army to see if they could tell us when, where and why they awarded- only to be told a fire had occurred and the records with that information was destroyed.
It was mentioned the CIB notation in his papers was significant. We know little about his service because he didn’t talk much about it.
Dad's service record is unusual as he went into the CA Reserves first and then the National Guard in 47- spending most of 47 in service. Was out until Sept 1950 when he was called back when he then spent one week at Fort Knox Kentucky, then shipped back to Camp Cook California and then apparently went to Korea. We recently received some of his records from the Army but there is a blank for the time period from Nov 1950 until 1953 when he was regular Army and went overseas to Germany and France. We know nothing about his time in Korea and about where he was and what happened that those badges and medals were awarded.
We are interested in:
What specifically qualified him for any of these awards?
Were some unit awards?
What battles did he participate in?

He was from Eastport, Maine and likely with Pioneer and Ammunition Platoon or Anti-Tank Mine Platoon. MOS 1729 I think would place him there. Comments: My uncle is curious about any of the soldiers names listed above who served with him in Korea from March 1951 til Jan 1952.
He is in poor health but has a very vivid memory. He has shared some of his war stories
with me and I am both fascinated and humbled at the price these men paid for my freedom! God bless you all!
If you know him or can tell us the whereabouts of any of these men, we would greatly appreciate it!
My Uncle fought on the front lines and then was taken off and given a position as a cook in the mess hall.
His unique twist of southern seasoning, earned him favor in the eyes of his superiors and he advanced in rank rather swiftly for his dedicated service, and delicious meals he prepared for his fellow soldiers.
He is an amazing person and I would love to be able to share the whereabouts of any of these names he has given me to inquire about. Please contact me if you have any information to share. He is an Alabama native.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who may have served with my
grandfather in 1951 or 52. His name was Jesse Gene
Powers, Cpl. Powers I guess he was part of Dog Company,
the 223rd Inf. Regt. 40th Div. he's been gone about
6years now but I'd like to learn more about his time in
Korea and my grandmother Donna was curious as well. I
know they had Army reunions I remember attending a few
as a child in Las Vegas and Boomtown and I remember how
much my grandpa looked forward to them! I'd love to
hear stories, or if anyone has photos that would just
be amazing! Hope to connect with some people on here!
Thank you all for your service to our country. Feel free to email
me!

Comments: I just learned this is my paternal grandfather. It has taken me years. I
want to see his face. May not be possible, but I'm looking for photos of
this man or group of men, anything if at all. I have very little information
about him aside form a brief marriage to my father's mother. He was
from Ritchie County, West Virginia. Thank you.
