Comments: I am trying to locate former Camp 5 POW's that were incarcerated with my father. My Father passed away in 1994. He only shared two things that his captors forced upon him and the rest of his imprisoned men.

When I (as next of kin) requested this info from NARA, within one month an "official" letter was sent to me stating that ALL of that info was burned in a fire.

This brave man was my Father. I deserve answers. There may have been a fire, but a fire that would loose invaluable records, (Copies in God knows how many copies), are not to be believed.

Comments: My father Herman Wilson Blankenship was a lieutenant at the time of his death which was July 31 1950. He was in company F of the 19th infantry regiment of the 24th division. I have grown up wondering about his time in Korea since I was only 9 months at the time. My mother had letters from his time in WWII but not much from Korea. I would love to talk to anyone who may have served with him and may have been with him at his death.

I'm attempting to put together a history of Camp MacKenzie which was named by the 1st Cav around 1960. Prior to that it didnt have a name and was known only as camp F7. The camp was on the east side of MSR 1 (right side of road when heading to Freedom Bridge) about 2.5 miles south of Freedom Bridge and 1.5 miles north of Munsan.

During his deployment, several guys from the unit were assigned to protect water towers over night from destruction by the North Korean military. They were North of where the DMZ is today, although it had not yet been established at that time. The water towers were mostly on mountain tops. These missions took place from 1953-1954 (approximately). They are not anywhere in his orders, though. If you know anything about these strategic objectives, or the assignments to guard them, please contact us. You would be making a world of difference for a fellow vet.

Comments: The 19th Infantry Regiment was located just to the north of the Injim river. I served there in 1956. My job was to guard the perimeter where the commanding officer was located. During a fierce completion in 1957, I was fooed as the best infantry enlisted man. I was E-4 at the time. Though it had been published that the war ended (an armistice was signed), this really was not true. The North Korean soldiers loved to harass us mainly at night. They also picked on the guards that were on duty at demilitarized zone (DMZ). One night I was involved in a shoot out with North KOrean agents who were trying to cross the river. I don't know of the outcome because it was a very dark night. I suppose this is why they chose that particular night. In December 1957, I was called tot he DMZ at midnight to pickup 2 North Korean soldiers and bring them to ROK (Republic of Korea) army intelligence unit a few miles south. Just before we got to our destination a PFC who accompanied me stopped the jeep and wanted execute the prisoners. I confronted him and persuaded to stay cool and get back on the jeep. From that moment on, I had to point my .45 to the driver and the prisoners. There were no paved roads, no trees standing, no town. Everywhere was destruction. But after many years South Korea has come a long way in rebuilding. The South Koreans were very nice people although they suffered a lot. I'm glad that I served in my unit in keeping the wreckless North Korean army from invading the south again.

Comments: Looking for anyone with information on the whereabouts of K Company, 19th Regiment in April 1951. Apparently, our government does not have this knowledge, can't find it anywhere. My dad, PFC. Felix Pucciarelli was with K Company, 19th Regiment when their position was overrun. As a result, many were killed and many captured. My dad spent 2 years as POW in Camp 2.
